Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

error: unknown host service
"[*] Triggering core dump..."

"[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."
remount succeeded

After this I was stuck... the phone was stuck at boot screen buzzing over and over. Solution. Manually reboot. Unmount SD card, check all app development boxes, rerun batch file. I doubt the additional development options were relevant, but just in case. UNMOUNT the SD card.
This is on the Samsung Vitality version. (Cricket version of Admire...same kernel, build, etc.?

I've noticed that a lot of people are getting difficulties when they run the one click root, without having superuser already on their phone.

I modified the bat script to push the superuser.apk onto the phone at \system\app\superuser.apk.

The version that I did for my Unbuntu machine worked, I haven't tried out this windows version. On my linux or Ubuntu version, I also added the script to remove the bloatware.

Titanium Backup doesn't show RAM on my phone.... Only ROM (26.7mb free), Internal (154mb free) and SD card (1.94 gb free)

Where do I see RAM?

your right i wasnt thinking .. tit backup gives rom, internal, sdcard .. you have to goto regular settings / applications / all applications then at the bottom should show you how much you have free and just click the tabs at the top to look at each type of memory .. sounds like you have more then enough free space though .. higher end smartphones have double/triple what the admire has but it better for triple the price!

So this is what I get, and my phone does not vibrate or anything.
This stays this was FOREVER! with nothing happening. Downloaded drivers, debugging enabled.

You guys are the BOMB, it's working. After receiving the message that it was rooted but Titanium said it wasn't, read a comment that suggested to download the Superuser app from Market after rebooting. i did and it works. now backing up with titanium then removing bloatware

I got this error as well - but then i Installed SuperUser and everything is working fine. I have root access and can remove bloatware and tether the phone.

Download a root checker from the app store to see if you have root access. Thats what I did and it said I had it. Got Titanium Backup running on the phone right now with no issues.

I downloaded a root checker it said i didnt have a root. can i install anything that will let me root ???? i hate these stupid bloatware. so annoying. please help. i have samsung admire.

One Click Root for SCH-R720

About

Welcome, Admirers! Without the headaches of the package blocking that got in the way on the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, the crew over at the #admire channel have successfully rooted your device.

Actually, @djrbliss (Dan Rosenberg, bliss in #admire) did. Almost all of the credit belongs to him - he discovered the exploit that gives us root, and wrote the Linux/Mac one-click script. Technical info on the exploit can be found here. Enjoy the fruits of his hard work!

How to Install

Your device must be in USB Debugging mode. To turn it on, go to Settings > Applications > Development and check the box.

Linux/Mac: Connect your device to your PC, unpack the archive, and run run.sh. You may need to chmod 755 run.sh.

Windows: Install the Samsung USB drivers (download), unpack the archive, and open run.bat.

These steps follow them exactly and you will have a rooted admire .. make sure you download superuser.apk prior to doing the root. It should take you 3-10 minutes depending on your computer skills and then download titanium pro to ensure you are rooted then things afterwards like link2sd & cache cleaner for root users. Let us know how it goes.

Ok I rooted my admire now does anyone have a list of what I can delete that is metro pcs and where to delete it from?

These are safe to remove. Personally, I left the MetroNav because I like it. You can choose from here what you want to delete. Delete them using Titanium BackUp.

I installed the rar.bat file and the Superuser app and Superuser fix app on my phone, and everything works great! But I'm having trouble accessing the files on my phone... My computer is telling me that I need to insert a disk to the driver that runs my USB for my phone. Obviously, I can't install a disk to a USB port. Could someone help me?

(I'm trying to put music on my phone.)

Once your phone is connected to your computer. Pull your notifications window down on your phone > click usb connected > then click turn usb storage on > your green android man will turn orange

Then you can access your phone from ex: L: drive and be able to drag and drop any picture / mp3 music files on and off your phone.

Let us know if you need anything else. If this helped press the thanks button!

I'm trying to root my sisters phone.. I've owned two Android devices, and rooted them both successfully. ummm im aparently ******ed how do i open the .bat thing i dowloaded the thing above on my computer and 1st superuser on my phone then extracted the file... but idk how to do the rest.... :(

I'm a complete noob and am trying to follow your instructions under one click root. When you say to download and open the Samsung USB drivers and then unpack and open run.bat. I can only find the run.bat under the run file which when unpacked shows in the upper right the run.bat address. Am I to have my Admire linked to the computer during the entire process or link after I've opened run.bat file?

You have download in parenthesis in the directions and then again under that in the large type WINDOWS DOWNLOAD DIRECT. Are these the same thing and I can use the files from either? IF so once I do unpack and run the folder to the G: drive (my admire link) is that all I must do, and does everything just proceed from there?

I know I'm being redundent here but I can't afford to screw up my phone and I'm just trying to get complete clarity. Thank You in advance for any help you can give.

I am using admire metropcs and I need to root it. I am new in rooting stuff.. i have question 1: when I root my admire I still use metropcs servies or not? 2: this root is working on stock admire (means on its offical rom) without any problem.....? Or I have to flash Custom rom? hope u understand my question?

I'd like to add, after much frustration how to get this to work on Ubuntu. So, everytime I tried running the script it would halt on "daemon started successfully" and that was it. Stupid, right? I started playing around with adb itself and finally got a "insufficient permissions" error. A bit of googling on that led me to this solution, thankfully! I'm a new dude here and can't post links so here's the solution in short. You need new udev rules:

Code:
Create a file named /tmp/android.rules with the following contents (hex vendor numbers were taken from the vendor list page):
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0502", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0b05", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="413c", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0489", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="091e", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="18d1", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="24e3", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2116", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0482", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="17ef", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1004", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="22b8", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0409", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2080", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0955", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2257", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="10a9", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1d4d", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0471", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04da", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="05c6", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1f53", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04dd", MODE="0666"

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0930", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="19d2", MODE="0666"
Run the following commands (without the leading $):
$ sudo cp /tmp/android.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
$ sudo chmod 644   /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
$ sudo chown root. /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
$ sudo service udev restart
$ sudo killall adb
Disconnect the USB cable between the phone and the computer.
Reconnect the phone.
Run adb devices to confirm that now it has permission to access the phone.

To give credit where its due, despite the lack of link, I got this from pts.blog. Worked like a champ!

So, I installed the USB drivers, downloaded the root files, hooked my phone up to the computer (Mass storage disabled, USB Debugging enabled) and ran the batch file.

I get the following on my screen:

*daemon not running. starting it now*
*deamon started successfully*
"[*] Triggering core dump..."
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
"[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."

What am I doing wrong?
