Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

i had this phone before and rooted it just fine.well i broke that 1 and bought another.tried the root on this 1 and for some reason when i install the drivers and plug my phone in everything installs fine but the last part, get an error saying unknown device failed.can anyone tell me how to fix this so i can root?

yes..thats where im having the problem..after downloading drivers i plug phone in..says installing drivers but i get a message a few mins later saying not installed successful.when i look at log everything install fine but last part says unknown device failed

my other admire was running monster 4..didnt have any problems with the drivers and root.dont understand why the drivers are giving me problems now.

I just tried it..didnt work either.I clicked run.bat and it open adb.says click any key to continue and when i hit key it just closes it.guess this admire is un-rootable lol

without being bias...which would you recommend?and thanks guys for the info.

lol how can I not be biased? It all depends on what you want out of a ROM. If you want close to stock, but with an overclocked kernel and the ext4 filesystem, I'd suggest Stock++. If you can deal with the camera and (possibly) data not working, I'd definitely go for CM7. Other than that go for Monster or the other stock-a-likes out there.

I tried your cm7 on my other admire.loved it but missed getting my mms.data worked fine for me.i been watching your post closely...good work so far.I may just flash each one till i find 1 i like...but when cm7 is more stable that will be my rom of choice :D

I have the Samsung Admire with MetroPCS. If needed I will list ALL the apps on the phone.

Basically, what I want to accomplish is:
1. Delete apps that I don't need that cannot be deleted normally.
2. Tweak settings to extend battery life, improve speed, and other things, without taking the chance of ruining my phone. If this is not possible that is okay, I'm more worried about #1.

Is it safe to delete the default apps, like Messaging, MetroWEB, & MetroPCS Easy WiFi, and replace them with better downloadable apps?

If I ruin it somehow, is there a way I can save the default factory settings on my computer and load them back into the phone if needed?

Thanks everyone! I need to take babysteps into this, as I'm tight on money so buying a new phone is out of the question.

EDIT: I forgot to add in, if needed I will list ALL my phones apps, and then I would like someone to take the time and tell me what apps are safe to get rid of. Thanks again!

EDIT: Sorry for the triple post, but I also wanted to know if it's better to put your apps on your SDcard. Does it increase performance?

Download nobloat, titanium backup, android assistant etc. Backup and check its backed up before removing. If you don't recognise it don't remove it. Don't remove market/ play.

Okay thanks everyone! I'm just EXTREAMLY cautious about this, so pedro1977, even though you listed what I need, what excatly DO I need? lol

I just want to delete the bloatware really, and back everything up.

Also, Would it be best to factory reset my phone, updating apps that need updating, and THEN Rooting it?

Thanks so much.

EDIT: What...programs/apps, do I need on my phone to accomplish what I want? I read apage or two, and seen people talking about this app, that app, this program, that program, and I'm just nervous about it. But I want to do it. Wish you guys could do it for me. lol

You need to root before you can remove bloatware. If you're talking about a nandroid backup then this is not supported by cwm at the moment and would require root access too. I use nobloatfree instead of titanium backup to remove bloatware. I only remove large apps that you can download from play and some of crickets apps. Backup before removing and check to see its backed up before removing. Both apps allow this. Don't remove com files or app files that you think you can reinstall from the market with the view of moving them to sd card. Don't remove market, its updater or feedback agent mine are still broken and I'm still waiting for someone like you with a virgin device to send me a copy of these o)

Hey man, I'll do WHATEVER I can to help you aslong as you walk me through with baby steps. Is there anyway we could chat faster for this? I wanted to hopefully try to do mine today.

Basically, I want to delete AS MUCH apps as possible that will still allow my phone to work. I have NO PROBLEM with using other apps to replace mine, like MetroWEB, I'd use a better browser app.

But, Let's say I back up my phones files on my computer. If I "brick" it, there's NO return?

Thanks, and pedro, let me know if we can chat instantly lol.

Unfortunately that could be difficult I'm on wifi and on the move. At the moment I have less access. I don't know how I can help you anymore the instructions for rooting are above. For removing I've already. If you're scared about doing it don't do it. If you mess it up we may have an untested way to restore it but no guarantees. You can install another browser.for the sto k one just delete cache and data and it will take up no space or resources.
Good luck

Hi there, I guess because I am new to the forum I can't start a new thread so I am just posting here.

Anyway, I am trying to rooted my Samsung Admire last night using the steps seen here because I want to run Order & Chaos Online on my phone. When I install it currently, it says it is incompatible with my phone, so I want to update the build.prop so it thinks it is a phone that it can run on.

I've verified the phone is rooted and that I have the right permissions to edit build.prop. I am using the free Root Browser, as opposed to the 3.99 Root Explorer. I make the necessary changes n the build.prop file, save and get a message about how 'Root Browser has a access to poweruser.apk', and then I get a message saying 'build.prop Original saved as build.prop.bak'. I double check the build.prop and all my changes have been reverted back to the old ones. Same happens when restarting. How do I fix this?

Thanks,

Uro

See man, I did this too, I eventually used Terminal Emulator and It worked I thought, and allowed me to make changes and I saved it, and then I checked last night and it went back to the default one.
