Root root or dont root

yesterday i got froyo on my evo and well now i want to root my phone using unrevoked but will it wreck my phone because of the new update

It won't work until they update it. It won't do anything to your phone at this point. They've been pretty quick about all the updates in the past though. Shouldn't be more than a few days for a patch/update
