Seems that my phone automatically checks and wants to download firmware updates after powering up every time, even with the update apps froze and SSU installed...which is unacceptable and a pain to watch/wait and cancel every time.

My fix was originally Droidwall, but it doesn't function correctly with KitKat and it hasn't been updated by the dev in a long time.

I found that somebody else continued with it as AFWall+ and it appears to work flawlessly so far and blocks the update providing you don't have it allowed.

*Not sure if the firmware update checks the RCT log,
and don't want to run the risk of brick or root fix though.

awesome. i noticed the update prompts too, glad i wont have to worry about turning data off everytime i wanna reboot anymore.
 
Boost & Virgin are both owned by Sprint, but are two different divisions and have their own priorities. They may be behind on pushing it or maybe Virgin doesn't show the notification. I'm not sure, but figure it is better to be safe then sorry... That aside, there are a lot apps that collect data and have permissions that I feel they shouldn't unless I allow it :)
 
I've cancelled/blocked from the day of activation, and it only pops up for a few seconds after data connection is established.

You are in Michigan also, and experiencing this... Interesting.

Preventative measures make for a good piece of mind :)

Don't know, it seems to be hit or miss on the auto checking for firmware update prompt for different people.

On the prompt you have an option to cancel that works, but if you miss hitting cancel or looking away for a couple seconds and not see it it will update if there is one available.

I don't know if there is an actual update to the version on my phone, but I don't want to run the risk of unroot or possible brick because of RCT log possibly interacting with the update somehow.

I have data only allowed for non-system apps and system messaging in AFWall+ and it has blocked it now without me having to press cancel.

The only time I needed to disable it was when I was having unrelated data issues and had to do a PRL+Profile update to correct them and then I enabled it again.

BTW, you will have to tailor AFWall+ to your needs... For me it's pretty cut and dry as I don't use any Google/Boost/LG apps on the phone that require data, just aftermarket apps ie: GPS,browser, weather ect ect.

I have data issues too where I have to update my profile+prl every time I restart my phone, but I don't have afwall+. You think it could be another app I installed for some reason?

I only had it one time, and it was because of voicemail/voicemail.apk/boost issues.

If you used app quarantine or deleted files you may want to re-trace your steps as to when it started and adjust accordingly.

Also, if you used SD card fix and moved an app/s to the SD card (Assuming you can do that after the fix) it may be creating some sort of error. I use root explorer to move files around and haven't used sdfix yet.

I both deleted system apps and used sdfix. I don't think I deleted anything important, or moved anything important. How could it create an error?

System apps that can be deleted or frozen safely on one device sometimes cannot be done on another without various errors occurring from minor to major, sometimes right away or days later.
