does wherever youve downloaded the files list md5 sums?

you can check the md5 of your downloads either with a file verifyer on your pc,or on your phone with astro file manager,or a market app called "scary aliens AFV android file verifier"

Sound terrible saying it, but i dont know what this means. :confused:

There are 8 to download. Which is the one I need for this step?


Do you know which file i put on my sd card? once i have that i can keep rolling and will be done in a few minutes.
 
there are actually only 3 files. the first 2 have 3 places to download(a mirror is simply another location to download from) and the 3rd has 2 download places.

from the directions you listed above,you want to download from one of the 2 places on the 3rd file called "custom RUU" it doesnt really matter wich of the links you choose,the downlaod will be the same. if your 459mb file is from this location,then yes it is the right one :)

the md5 sum is simply a means of checking files and downloads. the md5 number,due to the way it is calculated,is unique to each file- 2 different files will never accidantally have the same number. it is listed after the file names. in the case of your 3rd file(custom RUU) the md5 sum is: md5sum : aff07b8256628a175c40938d408fa16f

if you have a file verifier on your pc(id recomend getting one) just check it with that. it should generate the same exact number. if it doesnt,then either youve downloaded the wrong one,or the file is corrupt or incomplete-as any change will cause the number to be different.

if the file is on your phone you can download scar aliens AFV,and use that to check the md5 of your file,or you can use astro file manager. in astro,long press on the file you want to check,then press details. it will list the md5 sum,among other things.

it is extremely helpful to know the md5 of anything your downloading for your phone-rom,kernal,theme,pretty much anything. if you verify that md5 sums match before flashing them,you can eliminate bad download as the cause of any prollems that you have afterward.

I had gotten the same screen when I tried to do it manually. I was doing this as the same time as a good friend and he was trying to help me, because i'm a droid noob and had no clue what was going on, lol. We had both got to this poing and he got a completely different screen. I just ended up doing the Factory Reset in this screen. Later that night, found that the program was for 32bit and my laptop was 64bit. So I downloaded the EasyRoot and the 64bit program and was soooo much easier.
 
I ended up getting it done and now have a rooted phone. Not without a few scares though.

Obviously couldnt have gotten this done without help. I'm very grateful for the help, thanks guys.

I'm still trying to figure out what I should do now though lol

dl superuser, rom manager, and titanium backup. Not really sure what TI backup is for or does or what I should do from here. But its a learning experience so time to read up more.
 
superuser should have been included. i thot rom manager,was also,but if not download that and use it to flash clockwork recovery.

i would then very strongly recomend to learn how to navigate and do things in recovery. DO NOT at this point use rom manager to make backups,do wipes,and flash roms. things can go wrong,and without a knowledge of how to use recovery you wont know how to fix them :eek:

the first thing i would do is boot into recovery and make a backup of your current setup.

there are 2 ways to get to recovery:
1)open rom manager and tap "boot into clockwork recovery"
2)power off your phone. power on while holding volume down. it will turn on in hboot. select recovery using the volume and power buttons
3)ok,theres actually 3 ways. you can download an app called quickboot(there are prolly a few like it) that will ive you options to reboot normally,into fastboot,or into recovery.kind of a neat app,but by no means neccessary.

once youre there,use the volume and home softkey buttons to navigate to backup and restore,then backup. once youre done,select tht option to reboot.

make sure your phone has sufficient charge before entering recovery,or make sure its plugged in,as bad things can happen if your phone shuts off during a flash or restore :eek:

titanium backup is an extremely handy app if you plan on flashing alot of roms. get the paid version,its well worth the $$.

it can backup all your apps and their data,as well as system apps and data. i personally only use it to backup my user installed apps+data. it can be used somehow to backup your sms messages and call log,but i have never cared about transfering these to the new rom,so hopefully someone will chime in on how to do it,if thats something you care about.

ive also read lots of favorable comments on "my backup pro",wich does the same thing. i have not personally used it.

one of the first things you might flash is the upgraded superuser,from here:

put it on your sd card(still zipped)
go to recovery
make a backup(make one prior to making any changes,always!)
flash zip menu
pick zip from sd card
pick that zip and yes to flash it
reboot

I had an issue with step 4 when you Choose the bootloader option and press power; let the ROM flash. When asked to upgrade, choose yes. It does not ask me to upgrade is there a reason why? And one more thing does it matter if the 3 downloaded files are in winrar files or do they have to be a zip file? :eek:
 
if you are using the same directions,it looks like all the downloads should be .zip files. the middle file contains several smaller files that will be used during the install. there will be a disc image,a .nb0 file,a text file,and a couple that are just labled "file". the first file is a downgrade RUU that you wont be able to open without something like 7-zip. the third is a custom RUU that is basically rooted current firmware. you will NOT open or modify either of the RUU files.

see post #3 for reasons why your phone wont find the PB05IMG file. :)
