Root [ROOT]Questions and Answers from the masses

great app for gaining root. I have it set up with a "superuser" but still can't seem to delete any of the extra crap (which is why I've been trying to gain root)

Wasn't planning on rooting my new D2 so soon, but thought I'd give it a shot. Worked perfectly. I'm using wireless tether for root users with my laptop right now.
 
I rooted for wireless tether and drocap.... I'm not ready for kernals, roms, etc. Confusing as hell, but I have wireless now which was a HUGE 'selling' point.

If for no other reason than that, it's worth the FREE that both the z4root and wireless apps cost.

I rooted, unrooted, and rerooted flawlessly.
 
Anyone know how long this process takes on the Droid 2, it's been almost 15 minutes and it's still on the "Running Exploit in order to obtain root access" with the spinning circle.

Also, how do I back out of it to try to run it again?

*** NVM, it rooted after a battery pull.

You want to do permanent. The temporary didn't seem to work on mine when I did it. Do permanent and when you do it might seem like it is doing nothing and has froze. Pull your battery and turn it back on and go back to the app and it should work in like 5 minutes.
 
Since Z4 is not on the market any longer, any way to get it. Anyplace to click on it to load it to the phone. I did root before, but lost root after I flashed the 2.2 SBF so I could do the OTA upgrade. Now I need root back...help please.
 
OK, but I don't know how to install an apk file onto my . How do I get it to the x other than downloading it to the phone. Will that work?

Edited to add....So I've got Z4 copied and on my SD card. I'm not sure how to install it from there, any help?
 
go to Menu -> settings -> Applications then check the box that says unknown sources.
Next, go to where you saved the file and open it. It will start to install.
 
Ok i decided to unroot with Z4 it did its thing but when ever i reboot, it constantly goes to clockwork ..the tron looking sreen with green lettering..lol sry had to put that..its what my wife described it as ya i can use the camera key and continue but wat do i do to take it back to 100% stock......reason being is for those just in case moments if i had go to into Verizon or send to asurion ....i love it rooted but of course im in the infancy of rooting....thx for any help and advice!!
 
I have been thinking about rooting my dorid 2 ever since i got it a few months ago. before i make the decision to do it i have a few questions.

1. what are the advantage to rooting my phone.

2. how hard is it to rooted it. from what i am reading it does not seem that hard but i just want to make sure before i do it.

3. also what if i mess it up is there way to factory restore it.

4. what is the best program to use.

1. Access to more files, more customizing, and root apps
2. Z4root app will root you and unroot you in one click.
3. Get the SBF for 2.3.20 and you can flash back to stock unrooted
4. Best program to use for what? If for root get Z4root
 
It's odd that you go directly to CWM... In fact, I thought you only GOT CWM when you installed Fission... Do you have Fission? And if you want to return to totally stock, you have to wipe your cache, and use the SBF and RSDlite (just google it, there's plenty of walkthroughs)
 
Every time I root, either with z4root or supper one click I have the same problem. The root goes fine but the lights on the keyboard and the home, search, and menu lights will not work for nothing. I mean right after the phone re-boots I have no back lights. I do have the sbf file and that is what I have to do to get the back lights working again. The root again and the same problem. The root works just fine and I do get supper user and can install apps that have to have supper user and all that but no back lights. And yes for me I would rather have my back lights than root. I would love to have BOTH.
