Root root,recovery,flash rom from adb/bootloader

OKay guys...this is a hard one...figured I'd try asking here.

I repair phones in Colorado. We had a customer bring in a Rezound with a broken LCD. We replaced it . Very easy repair. Turned the phone on and the LCD lights up wonderfully. After about 4 seconds on the HTC splash screen the lcd shuts off.

The phone is still on after the lcd shuts off.

Here is the odd part. If I go into the bootloader (volume down and power ) the LCD stays on as long as its in the bootloader.

Ive tried 3 lcds from different manufacturers and used the LCD in another rezound. It worked fine.

My question is, should i try rooting it and installing a recovery to flash a rom, and see if that helps?

Can I do all of this from adb?

Actually, thats a good question. Ill call the customer when im at work tomorrow.

If i recall he was S-ON though.

Sounds like the right idea, since it doesn't seem hardware related since the LCD stays on while in bootloader.

im thinking since a kernal tells the software how to interact with the hardware, that the kernal isnt playing nice with a replacement lcd.

So I need to flash a new kernal.

Is that possible to do just from the bootloader? Do i need to get clockworkmods on the phone?

also, i read the using htcdev will erase the data on the phone.
Are there alternatives?

Im sorry Im asking so many questions. Just trying to help this customer out. He has been extremely patient with us.

I would contact the customer first and ask if he is currently rooted.

You can be rooted and rommed with S-on.
