Root samsung Galaxy S2 t-989 for mac?

I think you would need to use a program called Heimdall. I have no experience using it or a Mac. Check this thread and maybe it will help some.

Hey davos, if you root it using a mac let us know how easy it is. I may just have to try it!
Ok i wanna start by saying that i finally rooted my phone on my mac an it wasn't easy at all. I follow the thread that Atmazzz provided, the ideas where right but the links that they have were no good at all, so i had to download VMware from here: VMware.Fusion.v5.0.2.MacOSX.Incl.Keymaker-CORE.zip (download torrent) - TPB
and then i had to download windows from here:
Windows XP Pro VMWARE IMAGE (download torrent) - TPB .
That seemed to work for a while but the internet explorer didn't wanna work, it kept force closing so i timed it and before it did i googled, google chrome and downloaded it, that was the only way to access the internet after i did all that i just followed this thread http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html and finally i rooted my phone on my mac.So, yes Caker188 i understand the irony on your comment, because it wasn't easy at all especially for me that I'm a noob at all this windows on mac stuff, but I'm glad to say that i finally got it, so good luck to anybody that wants to do what i did.

im in the same boat, i have a mac but it's older so i cant really download anything useful to root my phone i dont think? I was told if i rooted it then i could get my hotspot back? Any ideas that could help me out. I changed phones from a samsung dart to a samsung galaxy s2 hercules from tmobile upon doing this i found that i lost my free hotspot and yelling at tmobile for an hour i found out they want me to pay an extra 15 bucks for it just so hotspot works on my new phone, but it still works on my cheapo dart no problem but something in the new os on the new phone blocks hotspot. So for now ive just been switching out sim card whenever i want to get online on my computer which is tedious to say the least but still better than paying an extra 15 bucks just to share the SAME dang data i already pay for with my other devices etc..so stupid.
I know some ppl have found some workarounds that works but so far Foxfi and Pdanet and a couple other i tried dont work. I'm having tech issues cuz i cant download the stuff i need to make it work with tethering or bluetooth cuz my old powerbook doesnt have bluetooth and is an old os so nuthing is compatible to make it work that way. <mymacbook was stolen had to revert back to my old g4> Anyway any help or info on these issues would be appreciated, cuz ive been reading about all kinds of ways online and it's very confusing!

UPDATE nevermind I'm good! found another post on here by someone else and got my hotspot back in less than 30 seconds.
I looked at the tutorials for enabling tethering, and they all involve uninstalling TetheringProvision (after rooting the phone).
Well, I found an easier way.
1) Go to Settings>Applications>All
2) Scroll down until you see TetheringProvision and then click on it
3) Click "force stop" and "disable"
That's it! Enjoy your 'free' mobile hotspot.
FYI - I just bought my phone last week (first android), so if your software is different, this may not work for you.

I use a Mac and a PC, After first seeing this thread start I tried Heimdall, he is right, it's a bitch.
What I ended up doing is installing parallels and installed Windows 7 in a Virtual Machine. It isn't the easiest way, to get it done. But it works well.
