If you have any questions about the process to root you Slate 7 tablet, ask them here. :)

Windows 7 and mobo ro bo (which is what installs from that link) can't find drivers for my device. Shows a phone in the picture and says Driver Not Found! Ideas?

Do you have the USB debugging checked, Win7 should pick it up and then run mobo software and that should work....

Ciao,
I tried using your guide, but at point 7 nothing happens.

The rooting process (or what it appears to be) dosen't finish and the tablet freeze. I waited for 20 minutes. I have to remove the usb cable and reset (pressing power+volume buttons togher) the tablet to restart it.

Can you help me?

The trick is, once you get the software on your tab, go over to the left bottom and click on the last tab and you will see a list of software, games etc, then on the top you will see more tabs, go to the third tab over and you will see a folder that says root, click on that and that's all the Asian supersusers, click on one and install then go to step 7, as I said before the software is buggy and it took me a few times to get it to go pass the half way mark on the computer, if it black screens out, just unplug and start of, I will try to post up some screen shot last to show were these tabs are..

Thank you. I'm making a mistake somewhere, probably in chinese tabs.
Some screen shot would be very very usefull. While I'm waiting for your help I keep trying!

I will try to get some up tonight, it will work without installing the Asian superu, but like I said the software is buggy and it was just something I actually tried and it worked right after I install it....:)

Ok what I did after about the third time I tried this I looked on the software on the tab and thought I would install the supersu first and then try the root, so if you look on the first pic you will see the folder to click on on the software and you will see the root folder and in the second pic you will see all the Asian super user apps click on one and in the upper right which I have circled download and install then proceed to step 7... hope this helps....:)

Thank you for the help.
I 've done what you wrote, but nothing has changed. I always have a black screen when I try ro toot (point 7). :(

Yea it happened to me quite a few times, like I said the software is buggy, all I can say is keep trying it, it will pick it up.

Make sure when it locks up to close the software and relaunch......

The real problem with all the instructions here and elsewhere is most people write the instructions in a manner that is bound to confuse. I'd like to see, JUST once, someone make these damn instructions totally step-by-step without assuming the "experimenter" knows a little something.

Perhaps you can do this? I'm no dummy, but even I couldn't get this thing to work. That is really weird for me.

What about it, are you ready for a rewarding challenge to get most of us with this tab rooted? I sure hope so...

Wishing and hoping,

Thanks,
Sirzune

Did you get through some of it? Perhaps if you can let everyone know where you got hung up, we could try to work through it. :)

I got to where it stated it was rooted. After that supersu wouldn't work.

Ok after you got it rooted then when you open up supersu, the Chinese supersu should ask if its allowed when it does you will see the Chinese su program and then on the bottom left of the Chinese su click on that, then that will allow the Supersu to have permission's, then use the Android Root Toolkit to save the SuperSU and then you can delete the Chinese su. Once you do that clean up all the Chinese software off of the tablet and then go back to Android Root Toolkit and restore the supersu root that is saved there.

Let me know......:)

You wrote, "...then you can delete the Chinese su". Should I use Titanium to do that? Also, when the Chinese thing appears on the tablet, what do I click, as that is not in English. Thanks. I did try this on both D2PAD and the Slate.

When the Chinese thing shows up, It will have two options, click on the left button and that's the grant, its just like the regular supersu grant is on the left and deny is on the right, just grant SuperSU permission's and then your done, yes you can use TB to delete the other supersu.....but make sure to save root first in the android toolkit before you delete it.....

I've decided to give up on rooting this tablet. Hopefully (of course, I'm not holding my breath) someone will write an easily decipherable, step-by-step, tutorial where ANYONE will succeed on the first try. This should be the goal for any tutorial. What sense does it make for a tutorial on something if 70% of the users can't get results??? Does that not tell something of the tutorial itself?

Someone should make a video (a clear one) with all the steps (and verbal clarification of some of the steps) so we can see the rooting of the tablet. This would be the correct way to do this. Any takers? Well, I doubt it.

You get what you pay for which in this case is free. With all that knowledge on how a tutorial should be drafted, videos made, etc, you seem like the ideal candidate to rise to the occasion and make those should you ever figure out the procedure.

In any event, let's please keep all conversation from here forward on the topic of rooting rather than the quality of the tutorial. Cheers and thanks.

I hate to see you give up, I do feel your frustration as I did, I spent more than a week trying to get this rooted, using the tools I have put up and to explain its not the tutorial its the lack of being able to get access to the bootloader and the development of the device, HP unlike others, Samsung, Nexus etc haven't released any info at all on the device and have it locked down explaining why its so hard to root the device, also explaining why you have to use such a difficult program to root. Im sure in time someone will devise a better way of rooting it but till then, this is all we have. Take it or leave it. Your decision .....

I recently got this tablet as a gift and I'm looking to root it. This will be my first time rooting so sorry about my simplistic questions.

Firstly, will rooting via this method wipe the device? Will I lose all my app data?

Secondly, are there any roms for the slate? I've had a look but I can't find any. I would love to have paranoidandroid on this! Could you port paranoidandroid via this guide using the stock image as a base: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232773
Could someone try if it works? I would definitely root if it does otherwise I'm not so sure.

Thanks!

Hello Gofre and Welcome to Android Forums :)

First as far rooting the device it wont delete any data, but again being the bootloader is still locked by HP unfortunately there cant be any recovery put on it yet, but it can be rooted. Also I stated the software is buggy and can been kinda difficult to get root but it will work just have to have patient.

As far as roms there isn't anything working at this time. It would be nice to have some devs look into this but as I said beings the bootloader is locked down. I have seen some trying but with no luck so far, so hopefully someone will soon, it is a new device so hopefully they will have some roms out.

:)
