Root Root Success!

I have had my Droid Bionic for several months now. I finally decided I would take the plunge and try to root it. I wish I had done it the day I got it. I downloaded Pete's Moto Root Tool ver 1.08. I followed the directions and it worked flawlessly on the the first attempt. Like everyone I have been very ill about Verizon's bloatware on the fone. After the root I went to Google Play to check on bloatware apps. I downloaded four apps. The only one that would remove all of the Verizon crap was Titanium Backup. All the others left the following four programs, Verizon Video, Backup Assistant (bad), Moto Print, and VZ Navigator which was always butting in and forcing me to choose between Google Maps and it. Now every unwanted app is gone from my fone. What a relief it is. My Android version is 2.3.4. System version is 5.5.886.XT875. I hope this has been helpful.

Titanium Backup not only works for removing bloatware, it's a powerful backup tool, using TB is even better than saving on Google servers and should be a habit before updating or rooting your device:
The app, called Titanium Backup, allows users to have a back up copy of their apps and data, and store these into the SD card. In addition, the app has other features such as freezing apps so they don’t keep running in the background or even taking up space in the memory of the phone.

I highly suggest you use TiBackup to just freeze bloatware and not to remove it. As many have found in the past, removing bloatware can cause problems down the road especially when software updates roll around. Freezing them is just as effective as it prevents them from running but it is ultra easy to thaw them if needed.

Thanks for the tips about removal. I was under the impression I could put them back if I made backups.

Yes you can reinstall them if you have backups.

Be very careful: you cannot restore system apps (i.e., bloatware, etc.) with Titanium Backup. I think a very common mistake made with Titanium Backup is assuming that it backs up system apps (those that are colored red or green in the app.) Titanium does fully backup apps and data for apps installed from the market or side-loaded. However, for system apps, only the data is backed up - the actual .apk is not. If you delete a system app, you cannot restore it with Titanium Backup.

Therefore, it's critically important either to use Safestrap to preserve the non-safe system completely or freeze system apps using Titanium rather than deleting them.

Before I bought TB, I would just change the extension of the system app to get rid of it and change the extension back to .apk to reinstall.
