Root Root>Upgrade...Market Compatibility?

I apologize if this has been addressed somewhere. I always attempt to search before posting on forums but sometimes you just can't find the simplest inquiries.
I am currently running an HTC Desire from USCC with 2.1. If I was to root and upgrade to 2.3 would I run into a compatibility issue the Android Market? Meaning, would I have problems downloading applications from the Market that obviously weren't designed for 2.3 since it's not even released yet.
Thanks!

Well some apps will be compatible with 2.3 as they are very basic by design and the core of android shouldn't have changed that much.

Obviously, some won't work.

But since there are no fully working 2.3 roms just yet, its not too much of an issue yet.

The Nexus S has been released though, so Developers will nee to get their groove on.

On a similar note, once I have it rooted and upgraded will restoring my apps and my information be as easy as it was to back it up? I used MyBackup to back everything up to my SD card.

Once you're rooted you can use titanium back up or my.backup pro. It depends what Rom you go to.

System settings are incompatible across different roms. My backup is good for sms, call logs etc. Titanium is good for apps. Not used mybackup for apps
