From my brief search it doesn't look as though root is available to the Active yet.

It is certainly legit but some newer firmwares may not be compatible anymore. For example, it's only good on Verizon OE2 or older. And in the case of VZW, they added antirollback in firmwares past OE2 so you can't even go backward via Odin and root that way. So depending on your carrier, if any, your results may vary.
