Root root your mytouch 3g!!!

Has anyone tested the 1click method from theunlocker? Also how do I put cyanogen on my phone? I dont get how to install google apps without the os flashed.

Im actually thinking of doing this version of rooting it seems to be more simple i just have to watch the videos and read it again to see if i actually go for it. Lol. Anyone else tried it??

I have my rooted my Mytouch3g using the unlockr's 1 click method. Be sure to check out the unlockr for Video step by step how to, and XDA developers for the ROM, cyanogen with blackice theme FTW. I bought the phone mid Dec, already rooted!

There is only 1 real time that you can brick your phone and he tells you a few times what NOT to do. Make sure your battery has a good amount of battery left (>80%), and that you make sure the back of the phone is locked in place (You don't want the battery coming out).
If anyone has any questions please let me know.

How much better is the performance overall, are there any lags?

The Cy rom is clocked at a true cpu speed, while currently MyTouch is clocked far less.

How's the battery life with the Cy rom?

Multitouch browsing, I do feel it pushing apps more. The theme is basically built into the phone so it does not need to skin over things like theme apps on the marketplace. I noticed the old style theme sometimes when I would push the home button and had a few apps running, it would show up then switch to the theme I would have on freshface. Another thing, I love my notification bar being black!! ( No racism intended, but I don't like the white one). The phone just feels like it is running a lot more cleaner and efficient.

Battery life has a lot of variables to it....
-Brightness
-Screen Timeout
-Wireless services (bluetooth, 3g, wifi, wireless tethering)

I haven't noticed my phone running out any faster than before.

I rooted my MyTouch using the Unlockr one-click method from the You tube videos. It was pretty easy but it was time consuming. I put the EvilHero V3x Rom on and it is SWEET!!! It is so much smoother than it was before and it has so many good points to it. Admittedly, there are some issues with this ROM but it kicks so much but over the T-mobile factory ROM.

I would definitely say root your mytouch, and look around for a ROM that you really dig. I looked at Cyanogen and it is cool, but this Evilhero ROM is just awesome.

I can gain root access in 2 minutes. Its sooooooooooooo easy

Guys don't rush or try to have some kind of time trial when rooting your phone. Follow directions to the T, re-read, ask questions on forums, even if your stuck at what seems to be the simplest step. Not worth bricking your phone to be a 2 minute guy, I don't think he impressed any females here saying that either.

Lmao wasn't meant to impress any girls. Just everyone is saying its so hard and complicating when its really not hard at all. I have yet to brick a phone i mean really look on youtube at videos they show you step by step. Thats how i learned how to do it, now i make money off it because people dont want to mess their phone up so they bring it to me!

Interesting video on Youtube:

Looks interesting.
I have no problem with rooting the device but I really struggle to decide which rom I want to go with.
I don't think there is any modified rom that is as stable as our 1.6
Please correct me if I am wrong: If there is a stable version that addresses all the known glitches/laggy performance we are seeing with 1.6

where do you get the 2 files you are supposed to load on it. Also if i do the 1click thing can i just use the regular home that comes with it or do I need to download something else

From what I understand, (I have not rooted yet) rooting the phone is completely different from installing a rom on the phone. "Root" is what you need in order to install custom roms. I believe you can root the phone and still use the shipped (factory donut 1.6 os) rom.
Custom roms are usually based off of shipped roms, they just have some tweaks, adjustments, some are stripped of the shipped apps, and some come with apps that usually require root.

Rooting is basically "unlocking" so you can tweak and adjust the os.

And someone please correct me if I am wrong.

That is correct.
All of you are aware that the MyTouch ships clocked at only 328 but is capable of actual cpu speed of 528.

Just curious, have your rooted your phone....
if so, are you using the stock os and have you noticed a performance upgrade?

I rooted yesterday following the video insta posted. It was NICE and actually very easy. Installed the Hero rom like that the vid said to do. The hero has lots of eye candy. I liked

Some things i did not like.
1. It installed apps I will NEVER ever EVER need or use.
2. I also was not fond of it being a 1.5 build. I like a lot of the things that 1.6 offers.

Things i did like:
1. The eye candy

The cons out weighed the pro so i tried to upgrade the phone again. I found a vid on you tube that says upgrade to 2.1 which also seemed easy. After restarting phone it turned into a white brick!

Maybe i got a bad file or something but not trying that again for a few months or ever or till i figure out a build i like. I dont know...

Side note:

After talking with several reps from tmo, 2.0 is coming sometime next month. (Feb 2010). IM not going to hold my breath but several have said that.
1 hour later after brick i called tmo and K. from tmo was the bomb he hooked me up so i can go to a store and pick one up. Thank you for saving the day. Im now running STOCK! :P

Ooooo, well that's troubling. I'd pretty much convinced myself to root so that I could overclock, but I hadn't planned on changing ROMs. I'd forgotten that you have to revert to 1.5 in order to root.

There's an "official T-Mo 1.6 rom" out there, but it comes with a bunch of shit that I don't have right now, so I don't know how official that could be.

If you root it, you should be able remove those bunch of $hit apps.
I thought about doing it but I am getting super lazy at it...
What can I possibly do that can only be accomplished by rooting the unit?
I just don't have any compelling reason for it yet..

Brand new to the forums and and brand new to Android; I'm picking up a MT3G later today and already thinking about rooting, overclocking, etc. It seems there's a lot of info out there and I have no clue which path to take.

Mainly don't want to brick my phone, lol.
