Root Root

I forgot who, but on the old commando someone was kind enough to post the root instructions step by step.
I'm not a supertech like some here but have the ability to follow directions well!
I don't even have the new phone yet (end of Aug) but wanted to be ready the second I have it in my hands!
Thanks to all !

that guy posted one about 10 posts up. and multiple users confirmed its function, aswell as its malware. skip the extra installations and it takes minutes...

ill be trying this in a few days when i get my 4g commando!

PS: is anyone buying teh gshock BT Watch, that pairs with said commando... i cant wait to get my hands on one.

To prevent me from bricking my phone, I just want to make sure I have the right stuff ready to go.
I went to the unlock root page and it give you three choices to download.
Unlock root pro and the bootloader I think are needed. The samsung is not?
Just load both of those?
Thanks for the help

i just got"UnlockRoot_downloader_by_UnlockRoot.exe" gonna try it in a few mins, seems other have had great success ....rooting will be enough for me, dont think ill ever want custom roms, a full back up like i used to have with my old htc phones would be cool but not something im really interested in.

So, how did the root program work? I'm like you, not really interested in custom roms, but there are still some things I'd like to do that require root.
.

i had a problem starting adb... im using ubuntu 99% of the time, but that app was windows, and my pc is 64bit, i had to download android sdk and install casio drivers (which are on the phone) after that it worked fine. im rooted and have frozen like 23 apps. working on a full list on the other thread

the driver for the phone is located on the phone itself, it should pop up as a cd rom with several exe files inside it.

hello all. i'm very new to android and fairly new to smartphones. hung on to my old g'zone flip phone forever because it was so awesome. used an iphone for about 10 months (took me 10 months to break it, which surprised me) and just used my verizon upgrade for the new commando 4g. i love it but i'm very interested in this rooting stuff. i've been reading a lot about it but still not real clear on all the terms and intricacies.

it appears from reading here that some of you guys are still working on a fool proof and safe process for rooting this phone. if i can help by trying some things on my phone i will be happy to do so.

oh cool, thanks unitypunk. i was under the impression that it was not a very safe prospect at this point. what is the recovery piece of this puzzle that monkeytools and elderly punk have been working on? it appears to me that rooting requires a custom recovery. thanks for helping a newbie get acquainted with this stuff.

one more question, and i apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this but it is related to rooting... if there is a problem with the process, will something like ultimate backup tool put everything back as it was. much like making a bit image backup of a hard drive. from what i've read, making an image of my phone requires root, so how do you make a backup to return to prior to rooting?

i dont have any recovery on mine, and im rooted, you only need a recovery solution if you plan on messing your rom up to the point that it may not boot.. i just get rid of shit like slacker and native email, verizon apps, extra wallpapers etc...

if you're an avid computer user you'll know to uncheck the "install spam crap to my computer" box if not, you'll learn the hard way but yeah its pretty safe, id uninstall it immediately afterwards, another user had it pop up as a virus and get quarantined

i dont know anything about recovery, a user in main has posted he knows the key combo but hasnt shared... also... my old commando had no recovery, i wouldnt mind a clean spam free rom like i used to cook up in the old PPC_kitchen, but i dont think you can really do that with android..

no problems installing the software. skipped all the adware and turned off anti virus. that all went well, it said it rooted the phone. and i installed an android root app to check for root. it said device does have root access.

i'm having a problem though, i've rooted and unrooted several times and every time i root the settings menu stops working as well as the manage apps menu. anyone else have this problem or know what this is about?

okay guys I downloaded UnlockRoot and im working on installing it. ive hit the custom install but do I need to click the lil box under custom install that says "Basic Serve - Delivers relrvant search results for most DNS but then my lappy cuts off the rest of what it says... sooo.... what did yall do? im sorry im really new at all of this and don't have the extra cash to go buy a new lappy or commando. please help walk me thru this so I don't screw things up. thanks in advance...

why are you going back and forth...

Just got my Commando 4G a couple of days ago. Successfully rooted using the methods listed above!

I consider myself to be pretty tech savvy, and have done lots of rooting, custom ROM installs, etc. in the past. If anyone working on the recovery issue needs anything pulled from the phone, or any methods attempted, let me know. I'd be happy to help in any way possible!

Due for an upgrade and shattered the screen on my rezound, thinking about a commando but wish to keep my free tether. Do we have confirmation on any of the tether apps (pre or post root) as being fully functional? If not I might have to go with the gs4. Thanks in advance.

I had this same issue. Turns out if you grant your settings app superuser permissions, things mess up in the settings menu as well as the application manager. In order to fix simply open up the SuperSU app, click settings, change access to DENY and notifications to disable. Reboot your phone and you're good to go!

not working well.. ill be playing with the settings. im not seeing the AP on my pc.

the native hotspot app seems to work fine without wifitether apk., im posting from it. i know i dont pay monthly for hotspot, and get 12gb shared data... maybe hotspotting on phones is free now?(i know that doesnt make sense from verizon standpoint... but maybe)

The FCC recently ruled in court that if you pay for a specified amount of data (i.e. anything other than unlimited data plan), then you should be able to use it in anyway you want, including tethering. Since that ruling, all native wifi tethering apps work free of charge!

In TWO days my upgrade is due. Can't wait to upgrade since my current commando is always in low memory mode no matter what I do to clear any internal data. Its been rooted for almost 2 years running m080 software!
I can attest to the toughness of the phone and have been a Casio fan since the G'zone One!
The new one gets rooted immediately!
