Root root

when I try to uninstall a system app on the rugby smart, a black window pops up and tells me: 'uninstall system app requires root, your device is not rooted.'
so, my question is how do I root my phone just so I can uninstall useless system apps that only take up space ??

There looks to be a guide there, have a read through the entire thread though, just to be sure. The guide was written in 2012 so it might be outdated.

Not much has changed as far as rooting, just that there are more ROMs available.
