Root Rooted and still having low memory issues

Ok...I rooted the phone, installed the App2SD enabler and followed the instructions to move all the apps to SD. Right now I only have the market on internal memory. I followed a tutorial and was able to install all the other apps on SD. I don't have that many to begin with.
And yet, I have 9MB of available internal memory, the phone is slow as molasses and driving me bonkers, freezing, etc.
Can anybody guide me on how to flash ROM replacing with something that will remove the bloated HTC sense crap from it plus stopping the lack of memory issue?
I believe that the issue right now is being caused by my contacts...for some reason some of the contacts I added as phone show under google or gmail and I have no clue how to switch them back to phone so I can only display the phone list. It's using all lists and only displaying the ones with phone numbers.
But I am thinking even if that was solved I would still end up with the memory issue down the road.
If I replace the stock ROM with another, will I lose the purchased applications??

Thanks,

T.

Hi. I think firstly you need to understand a bit more about what options are available.
now. If you know what's available to you, it gives you an idea which way to go which ultimately may affect your Rom.choice

The memory faq in the all about rooting sticky.thread will help you s lot

Thank you SUroot.

The issue is that I am not versed enough to be able to really understand all that. I had read the faqs before.
I was able to root the phone using the unrevoked method. But to flash the rom I will need more than just a 5 step guide to get there.
My main concern is, what happens to all my contacts and purchased applications? Will I lose those?
The other apps can be easily reinstalled and used as I have done that before but the purchased apps I have not touched, neither my contacts.
Just really frustrated with this phone.
Sorry.

Just sync your contacts with google then you wont lose them. Your purchased apps from the market can always be redownloaded again. You wont have to pay for them again.

If they're not google contacts, backup with mybackup pro. Paid apps remain in the market. Theyre assocciated with your gmail account. However, all apps can be backed up with titanium.

Its worth trying to understand. Read things, ask us LOADS of questions. It may take time before you are confident but it is very worth it. :)

Should I assume that since you are using Redux that it is the best ROM out there? I heard of at least 3 others that are said to be good but I need to pick one...
I will take the jump this week when I have a few hours to put aside to do it.
Thank you...I will certainly ask questions.

The best thing to do is just try different roms yourself and see what you like. Always nandroid first though. Redux is small, fast and stable with good battery life, but it's all down to personal taste.

"Best ROM" is a subjective thing. Read Which ROM people are using and decide yourself.
The major question is: Sense or non-Sense ROM.

The original htc system is 250 MB. But the aosp roms like oxygen are less than 100 mb that too with gingerbread. Light and fast.
