Root Rooted and trying to tether

Okay I'm having a little problem i upgraded my phone to the unofficial version of froyo 2.2 rooted with super one click. i go to tethering mode and i am able to tether with nothing saying i have to pay for it, success.

i then upgraded my friends captivate to the official version of froyo 2.2 again used super one click, rooted, but then when i go to settings applications wifi tethering it shoes tethering requires a plan. so why is his saying this and mine is not, what did i do wrong?

You could always install Barnacle for him instead of the default tether. Take a look at it. You can get it off the market but need to disable your SIM card.

Turn off WiFi
Turn on Airplane/Flight Mode
Turn on WiFi and now you can get apps that AT&T blocks in the market.

AT&T did some modifications on their 'official' version. So you'll need to Root that phone to get tethering to work.

Enable Tethering on the new oem Froyo Rom - xda-developers

I did root his phone but i get that need to pay for the tethering package message

I also did use titanium backup to remove tether manager , but the message is still on there.

With the original ROM, the message appears and it will refuse to allow you to teather.

After the mod, the message will not be removed - but you will find that it now allows you to teather.
