Root Rooted Commando Lost Ability to Data over 3G

This started last night.
Data over Wifi works fine.
3G icon shows up (white not green) and 1 or 2 bars on the signal strength icon (also white not green).
Anybody know a way to troubleshoot this one?

I'm assuming you tried to restart it a few times right, by fully taking out the battery?
Did you freeze or uninstall any programs once you rooted it?

are you around the buffalo NY area? i have the same thing going on. no data, called Verizon, no data outages that they told me, went threw all the trouble shooting steps, and my phone is still under warranty so i am getting a new one tomorrow. now i just have to really mess this one up so they cant figure out it was rooted...

I'm from West Seneca.

I've never had a great signal here. From what I can tell, the closest Verizon towers are in Amherst, Angola, North Collins, and Sheldon, NY. Therfore I'm at the edge of all cell towers.

Cell Phone Towers - CellReception.com seneca&state_abr=ny&filter_verizon=1

I believe Verizon has plans for a tower in West Seneca. Which would fill in a void of towns and cities east and south-east of Buffalo.

Anyway, signal has seemed worse as of late. Lately, when at home, Yahoo Mail is in 1G a lot. I get an excellent signal at work which is pretty close to downtown Buffalo. I wouldn't put it past Verizon that they would not admit to having some technical difficulties.

You can unroot without messing it up lol

1. Reinstall/unfreeze system apps/bloat.
2. Reinstall stock recovery
3. Remove superuser
4. Factory reset

I've done this more than once. I may be missing a step or two

i'm from ct and i've also had some weird data issues, some are due to the ROM i'm running though, but some friends have told me they are having issues as well with stock phones

Wow, it's been two years since I've been on here :)

Did you by chance update Busybox with my installer yesterday or the day before?

Yes, I did. I thought that could have had something to do with it but freezing/uninstalling busybox didn't bring the 3G back. Please tell me why you ask.

It's probably too late no. I tried to factory reset and it failed and just got a replacement Commando today with M100;-( Still have the original M80 rooted phone but it's stuck in Verizion Initiating screen of factory reset.

Yea...It might be too late now :(

There was a bug with my app that caused my app to symlink all applets to Busybox. Because of this some phones experience wierd issues because some applets were replaced by Busybox that should not have been.

The solution here, for your device and anyone else that has this problem, is for someone that is not experiencing this problem to copy the contents of /system/bin and give it to you.

You can then restore the applets that were replaced and be back up and running.

I apologize for the frustration. I didn't notice the bug because my device was not affected so I didn't catch it in my testing. I fixed it quickly in version 8.1, but a lot of people still got the bad update. Since that time I have been trying to reach out to people that may be having the problem in an attempt to rectify the situation.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Im having the same problem can you share a link to contents of /system/bin or will my friends with m110 work

I think you need root to access /system

And, stericson, he's asking will someone on a different OTA update will be compatible?

I would say that the route binary should be compatible. However, the entire /system/bin is another story....There's no telling..I would try it however.

I should have been more patient. The seems promising for reaching out to another rooted user to zip up a directory or two affected folks to overwrite. I don't blame Stericson for the 8.0 bug like all the haters on Market. He's obviously putting a lot of effort into helping fix the issue. We all knew the risks when we rooted a phone that doesn't have proper recovery.

So how's my NON Rooted Commando M100 replacement, you ask?
It's not that bad. It's a bit comforting to know I'm back in VZ's good guys column;-)

Now that I know this phone and Androids better in general, it was kinda fun setting it up from scratch.
-Deleted every widget and shortcut from stock launcher first
-Loaded Go Launcher and went to work gettting it like it was before the crash thru Play Store pushes of apps.
-All said and done it's a bit slower, but not much. The only place I can see the Bloat is in App Drawer and App Killer's list;-(

I miss Wifi Tethering, ScreenshotER, and Titanium.

But I'm finding workarounds for the Tethering will keep my going on the road.
-I had purchased Easy Tether USB ($10) before I rooted and it works great (faster than the Wifi Root;-) so I'm good there. This works great with all and any of my Win7, Unbuntu 10.4+, and MacOSx pcs.
-Open Garden has a NEW Open Garden that tethers over BlueTooth. I've had success in tethering to my Xoom (must use mobile Firefox with proxy add-on and only Firefox can connect http: and https:) and my Mac OSX Lion (total connectivity), but it's troublesome with Win7 b/c I can only get DUN working with generic Bluetooth Peripheral Drivers.
-FoxFi and PdaNet Tablet are two apps that together do a better (for now) Bluetooth solution than Open Garden. I've had success in tethering to my Xoom (totally connectivity when you use FoxFi Bluetooth option on phone and PdaNet Tablet app on the tablet), but it's troublesome with Win7 b/c I can only get DUN working with generic Bluetooth Peripheral Drivers.

You can hide unused apps in your app drawer using the go launcher.

So restoring a nand wouldn't have fixed your issue?
