Root Rooted commando

Just make sure you have a way to put all those apps back on when you have to send it back when the screen rotation & compass stops working.

Rooted, partially debloated, and loving it! Has anyone come up with a list of apps that are safe to remove? I used superoneclick to root, titanium backup to backup and remove apps.

I have already stripped off all the verizon bloat, bing, and other crapware but want to debloat deeper. FYI, removing the Nuance Voice Control app will give an infinate force close loop. I thought I hosed my phone but after sweating a little, a battery pull did the trick and the phone is running fine without it. I am a little nervous to remove the g'zone apps because they are somewhat tied in to the hardware and I am not too sure how the phone will behave without them. Besides, they are kind of cool, although will go mostly unused.

Any devs out there want to dabble in a custom rom? Able and willing to donate! :D I heard casio released the GPL download of the phone on their website (including the kernel). Can anyone do anything with this?
http://www.casiogzone.com/commando/ (download is under the spec tab).

+1 on the donations! It seems us Commando owners are the black sheep of the development family! Nobody seems to want to improve on this device.

Unfortunately it's just not mainstream enough to attract dev attention. Unless of course a dev is actually an outdoor enthusiast with a hankering for nearly indestructible phones. :) Or in my case a critical job requirement.

On a side note, I went into a Verizon shop to see if I could pick up a desktop cradle as they are sold out online. They told me that Verizon may not be ordering more due to the limited demand of the Commando. That's not a good sign...

That's because every dolt in America wants an iphone.... they need to promote it more than they are. which is zero. I have never seen an ad on tv or in print for a commando. I bet if they did , peeps would most definitely check it out. I have shown quite a few peeps my commando, and they ALL went out and bought it, well, besides my brother, he wanted a 4g phone. whatever....

They won't promote it because it is better for the company to sell more phones than to promote the ones that are built for everyday consumer use. I have 3 kids and a motorcycle, and ideas why I got this phone? :-)

I would also donate towards a custom rom, especially one with Gingerbread. I am developing some apps and this is one of our target platforms, but without 2.3 our work is much harder.
