Am having this dreaded error everytime I try to use a non-Verizon SIM. As per the screengrab, you can see am in Nairobi, Kenya.

I engaged Verizon on twitter and they insisted the phone was unlocked and could use any carrier.
Some sites recommed removing some system files vzwphoneservices.apk but I can't find it.

I bought a Sunshine license yesterday after failing to open the bootloader from htcdev. I further rooted the device with KingRoot but I still can't get this annoying pop up off.

Please advise on how to remove it

According to http://www.willmyphonework.net/ ...which is a very useful site, an HTC 612 CDMA/EVDO Verizon phone, is NOT going to work in Kenya with any carrier.

http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-desire-612/
Network1
3G - CDMA: 800/1900
4G - LTE: 700/1700 MHz (B13/B4)

US cellular bands only.
This phone is not going to work outside of the United States, not anywhere, except probably Canada. And there is no fix for that, not with unlocking or rooting, not anything.

If you're certain it's unlocked, but it's still giving this "Non Verizon SIM" error could be that it's expecting a R-UIM or CSIM card, which is a type of SIM that's specific to CDMA/EVDO networks. Which you don't have in Kenya.

If you're intending to stay in Nairobi, you likely have to buy a new phone locally I think.

Ouch :(
And Cheers for the will my phone work link Mike. Just came in handy ;)

Yeh mate, very useful info there. :thumbsupdroid:

Think this is the first time I've seen a North American bands and modes only phone on here. Presumably Verizon and HTC weren't expecting users to go globetrotting with it.

Another thing, a Verizon customer service rep. on Twitter, that could be outsourced to India or even Africa these days, possibly they're just following a script and are not aware of the limitations of this particular Verizon device.

I am pretty sure that even if you have a phone that works outside the US, you'll still get that popup every time you boot the phone with a non-Verizon SIM. It's kind of maddening.

I bought a Consumer Cellular SIM starter kit a while back to 'test drive' the AT&T network in my area and put it in my Verizon HTC Droid DNA and got that message every time I started the phone. Seems like the first three or four boots I also had to go back and manually enter the APN/MMS details as they'd be overwritten.

To me, it was just Verizon spitting in the eye of the regulators that required them to unlock all their LTE phones. Sure, they're unlocked, but they'll nag the heck out of you and erase your settings if you use someone else's SIM card.
