Root Rooted, installed Clockwork, still get stock recovery menu

Ok,

Just so you know what I'm looking at. The corrupt Bionix zip file showed up in my rom manager even though I got this message when I initially dropped it into the internal sd from my computer - The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “bionix-v-1.2-wipe.zip” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)

I tried to install the ROM anyway and went thru all the steps in Clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix. I clicked option Install zip from sdcard, I then scrolled down and clicked the Bionix zip and clicked then scrolled down to Yes and clicked and got this "E: Can't open /sdcard/bionix-v-1.2-wipe.zip (bad) Installation aborted.

I have redownloaded the zip file from XDA 5 times and each time my phone says this.

Any ideas???

Wait. You have a voodoo kernel, and green recovery? Something isn't right. Did you re-flash CWM recovery after you installed the kernel?
 
Yeah something isn't right alright.

I'm pretty sure I'm bricked. Phone will restart, do the T-Mobile music then show the Samsung S and then go black and just vibrate randomly.

I can put it into recovery mode and I have now 4 times. In recovery mode I can toggle to restore/backup. I've restored it and it doesn't matter, it acts like its going to start like normal then the screen goes black and it vibrates.

I've removed the battery as well and no luck. I have big issues now.

Just shoot me!!
 
Relax a bit, and grab yourself ODIN v 1.3. Flashing back to stock is easy, just make sure with the issues you are having that you check the "repartition" box when you do it. Once you reboot, plug in to your computer and open your internal SD and delete EVERYTHING in there. After that, root like normal and start over. If you ever use another voodoo kernel DO NOT flash clockwork mod recovery over it. Voodoo uses a different version than the one ROM Manager will install, which could be the problem you are having now.

Thanks for replying. I'm having issues with Odin because we only have Apple computers.

Is there another option?

I was thinking I could use my wife's phone and load a rom onto the external sd card then put the exterbal sd into my phone and access it thru recovery mode and load it. Is that a viable alternative?

I found the below in the forums:

These are the steps that I used to fix his phone: (You must be rooted in order to perform the tasks described below)

You will need to download a ROM and place it on the root of your SD Card, no need to rename it. I realize that if your phone does not work, this may be a problem. I suggest downloading it using your computer. Then put your SD Card in a friends phone, and transfer it via USB cord to your SD card. After that is done, put it back into your phone and follow the steps below.

1.Boot the phone using the 3 button method(volume up + volume down + power)
1a.If the 3 button method is not working for you, try plugging it into the comuter via USB cable and try it again.
2.Select and execute 'reinstall packages' This should get you into clockworkmod recovery(green text)
3.Select and execute 'factory data wipe' -\
4.Select and execute 'delet cache' -------- You may be able to get away with not doing these steps. Results may vary.
5.Select 'intall .zip from SD Card'
6.Select 'choose .zip from SD Card'
7.Choose whatever ROM you have on your SD Card that you want to use(I used Vibrant9)
8.Select 'yes', wait for installation to finish
9.Select 'reboot now'
10.Wait for phone to reboot. BE PATIENT. It is possible for the first boot to take as long as 10min. If you thing it is taking too long, set a timer or something.

Edit: You may be able to flash one of your previous backups at this point. I haven't tried it on my friends because he is getting the replacement phone anyways. But I will try before he sends it back and let you guys know.

Again, any input on this is greatly appreciated. Feel free to link this post to other people who have run into this problem. I hope this helps.

However, the text for me is red and I can't see my external sd card. Since I can't see the external card I can't retrieve the rom that I put onto the ext sd card. How do I get the text to go green so I can access this?

you should look in to a program called heimdal. It works like ODIN but I think there is a version for mac. The reason you have red recovery is because you have a voodoo kernel. Check and see if voodoo is enabled. If it is, try disabling and rebooting. You may have had info left in RFS that didn't convert. That would fix the problem. Another option is to go to a FedEx Office, and rent a PC for a couple hours, download ODIN 1.3, and the .pit and .tar files and flash back to stock. There computers aren't locked down so you should be able to do all of this from a rental station.
 
I went to a friends house and used his PC last night.

I now have my phone back up and was able to install Dragon kernel 2.6.32.9 and Bionix-v 1.3.1 by Team Whiskey.

Aside from my relief at having my phone back working, I can't say enough about how fast its running with this kernel and rom.

I'm very, please and thank you so much for your help!!
 
I dumped the Dragon kernel and went to an Overstock kernel.

My phone was running so hot, I mean hot to the touch with the dragon kernel and I got a whole 4 hrs battery life. Flashed the Overstock last night and the phone is cool and battery seems to be holding up better.

I'm learning, slowly but surely!!
