Help Rooted lg l90 after 5.0.2 is ruined!

So my fiance and I have the same phones, both rooted with towelroot while they were 4.4.2, everything was working great. My fiance unknowingly installed 5.0.2 on hers and immediately things went sour, basically her phone is ruined now. It locks up constantly requiring a restart, the battery life has been hugely decreased, and it is a lot slower. I have done tests booting hers and mine (which is still 4.4.2) up side by side and mine wins by a mile every time, same thing goes for everything, opening any app like the camera or a game, even going into the settings, hers is a lot slower now. To top it all off 4gb of her internal storage has been taken away for this "upgrade". If you open SuperSU on her phone it says something along the lines of, "There is no SU binary installed, if you upgraded to Android 5.0 you need to manually re-root, consult the relevant forums for your device". I'd like to get this out of the way and express my disgust with whoever was responsible for this "upgrade", I am reading countless complaints of similar issues. Hard thing is trying to find people in a similar situation specifically with our phones though, the lg l90 d415, so I am coming here for help and hoping someone more knowledgeable could tell me what they would do in this situation.

I am okay with computers, but these are our first smartphones, I am capable but still pretty ignorant about them. I would just like to know how to downgrade her phone back to 4.4.2, I'd go ahead and try a factory reset if it ironed out all the bugs, but the problem is this particular phone is unrootable as far as I know with 5.0.2. I don't even know how to backup all of her contacts and texts, I am trying to research that now.

As for my phone, I don't know if I should ever update again, she cannot recall whether or not the prompt told her it was a regular update or it was going to change her operating system to lollipop.

I have the Same phone and this Same thing Happened to Me. Heres the Problem. The Upgrade to 5.0.2 was Probably a OTA update provided by the Carrier. When she Installed it, the OTA update overwrote the Root, and Permissions that the ROM before the Upgrade had. To fix It, you need to Install the stock ROM for Lollipop (Which runs better than 4.4.2) from the Carriers Site (Probably T-Mobile), and then Setup the Phone like you Normally would, then Root using the ONE CLICK ROOT method found Here (Which I have found to Work the Best and with No Problems). After this, the Phone should run Like normal. The T-Mobile Stock Lollipop ROM can be found HERE. Any Help you need, just let me know.
 
The main problem was accepting an update on a rooted phone. Over The Air updates are patches, which are intended to be applied to stock system software. Apply them to modified system software and the results are unpredictable: losing root is almost guaranteed, but it can cause a load of other problems.

Now I'm not guaranteeing that LG haven't made a bad update, but you can't tell that from updating a rooted phone because a perfect update is still likely to foul up if you do this.

Contacts and texts are easy to back up: if the contacts are synched with Google they are already backed up. If not, go into the phonebook, bring up the settings and "export" them. That will save them as a vcard file on your /sdcard, which you can then copy somewhere else for safety. There are many non-root apps which can back up your messages as well (with names like "SMS Backup and Restore").

A factory reset might improve some things, and if you had problems after an update to an unmodified phone I'd recommend this. But it is quite possible that some or all of your problems are because the phone was rooted, in which case it might not help.

Unfortunately I've never owned an LG phone, so don't know how to reflash one of these to stock software (either 4.4 or 5.0), which is the obvious fix (restore it to completely stock software). The best bet might be to ask in our LG L90 root forum, since the people there will know.

I assume that you didn't have a custom recovery (I don't think Towelroot does that - personally I'm not comfortable rooting without a custom recovery). If you had that you could have taken a system backup beforehands and just restore that if such an issue arose, or flash a custom ROM as an alternative fix.
 
I personally just use the LG Mobile Support Tool which is the Program that comes with LG Phones but I have Flashed ROMS on LG phones before with tools like PhoenixCard, and ADB but that Kind of Stuff is More for Custom Roms like Cyanogen. You can also Reset it using the Power + Volume Up Method but If it was a bad Update it will still have the Same Problems.
 
Yes, indeed. A factory reset clears data, so if you have a corrupted cache that's fine, but it won't undo any change to system software.

So does this Mobile Support Tool allow you to reflash the phone's software? I'm guessing so from your posts, and if so it should be what the EthanJM needs.
 
Alright thank you, tonight I'll try JvaOneShotzXprX's method since he encountered the same problem on the same phone. The complaints about 5.0+ are numerous though, but since I have to wipe hers clean anyway I suppose there is no harm in giving 5.0.2 a try. She doesn't even like the interface though, I'll talk to her and let her decide. I assume the T-Mobile site would have the ROM for 4.4.2 as well then right?
Hadron, I'll definitely stop updating mine, I was not aware of the dangers of updating on a rooted phone, specifically that even smaller updates could cause issues. So far I lucked out thankfully enough.
Cannot do any of this now, have things to do, but I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.
 
Lollipop is actually quite a big update and it's always recommended to factory reset after one of them .
Since you're gonna have to wipe it (im guessing) to reflash it, I'd say try a factory reset first :thumbsupdroid:

On phones whose manufacturer/carrier provide a decent build, lollipop is actually a really nice update btw
 
The Mobile Support Tool does flash the Phones Software from Scratch (At least thats what it did for me), and it might be useful to other LG users too. And I dont think i saw the 4.4.2 ROM on the site but you can check. Any Problems or error you run into, were here to help! :)
 
It does sound like a bad update as Hadron suggested, OTA update on rooted/modified ROM will more often than not cause problems.
I do like the Lollipop update, but as far as I'm aware it is still pretty buggy. I thought all 5.0.x had the memory leak problem? Am I wrong? I know my Sony 5.0.2 has it very bad, but the 5.1.1 update is due in next month which I believe fixes it. Only problem is the Xposed is experimental for that version at the moment I believe.
