Rooted phone or not? - says I did it, but root checker says no!

I thought I just finished rooting my s2 GT-i9100M phone. I went through the steps using Odin and used the Siyah kernel following the rooting for Dummies thread.

the first time, I used a kernel from the XDA site and it did not boot past the start up screen (although Odin said PASS). So I tried again with the Siyah kernel (and got a PASS from Odin) and this time it rebooted with the yellow triangle. I checked the about section and my phone kernel has been updated to the Siyah kernel. But when I go to run Titanium backup or Root Checker, it says the phone has not been rooted. What is happened here????

Have you got CWM and Superuser in your app drawer? If not, this could be because your original, incorrect, kernel flash has corrupted some files. Try re-flashing the Siyah kernel. If there is still no Superuser app in the app drawer, try downloading it from the Play Store and installing it and run Rootchecker again.

Failing that, you could flash your stock Samsung firmware for your CSC code and model and try rooting again with the correct .TAR file for Siyah that matches your platform, ICS or JB.

I have requested that the friendly and helpful Mods move this thread to the Galaxy S2 (International) - All Things Root of the forums as this is where you will receive more help.
 
Thank you for the quick reply. This is a very frustrating experience, but I appreciate all the help you can give! I am new to this so I will try to answer as much as I know.

Yes they are there from the 'supposed' root.

This is where I have the most difficulty. The Siyah kernel was supposed to be the one that matched my phone - the GT-i9100M. I have the Canadian Bell phone. Also, I was told that any kernel would do from the XDA forum that listed all the kernel - that is not the case because when I flashed with another kernel, the phone hung at the splash screen.

It passed all of the Odin tests (I am guessing that is what Odin is doing). So I am unsure of why it is not telling me it is rooted.

Here are two screen shots.

1) Ok, so I am going to run Odin again and flash the Siyah root kernel?
2) Do I need to do anything before that? When I first rooted the phone, I had to use Odin twice, do I need to do that again? Or just flash the Siyah?
3) Should I be backing up the phone somehow before proceeding? If so, how do I do that? Manually? How?

1) The ATTACHED IMAGE is an OLD screenshot of my version before I tried Siyah and supposedly rooted it.

2) The Siyah kernel is from here:

3) Also just tried to rooting it again using Odin with the above Siyah Kernel, it seemed to work in Odin (gave me a pass), but Root Checker and Titanium backup says it is STILL NOT ROOTED

4) CWM manager says "This version of CWM manager should be used with CF-root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled".

Verdict : NOT ROOTED

Have I given what you asked?

You are now using 2 different rooting methods on your phone... both the Dummies Guide and xda, not to mention your earlier kernel.

My advice is to flash the stock Samsung firmware for your phone, after a Factory Data Reset, to ensure that you do not have any detritus from your previous attempts and then proceed to use the Dummies Guide on this fresh firmware. Details of how to flash stock Samsung firmware are given in #1.7 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide and the firmware can be downloaded from here...

Thank you for the thorough reply.

1) I am going to try the factor reset with the Siyah (the only way I can do it now). Does it wipe everything? Contacts? Apps?

2) After it is factory reset, I going to SamMobile and download the stock kernel and then flash it with Odin (the same way I flashed everything else, PDA etc), correct?
 
Success! The phone is now rooted!

Ok finally got root access. The system seems to be running fine, Root Checker said it is rooted and superuser is installed. What is my next step so I can get this phone to 4.3?
 
1) do I download Nandroid?

2) Is titanium the same thing? I just finished running a Batch backup of ALL system and APPS.

3) PROBLEM : Clockword rom gives me this statement : "Confirm Phone Model"

My phone is not listed, so I pick "Device not listed above - click here is your device is not shown in the list above"

GT-i9100M does not have an officially supported ClockWorkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a CWM based recovery manually?
 
Ok, using CWM manager, I went into recovery mode and did a backup to both the SD and the external SD card. I also backed up the system and all apps using Titanium backup.
What is next?

If I recall correctly, the Gear Fit requires Bluetooth v4 and A2DP to function correctly... both of which the Galaxy S2 does not have.
 
oh crap, I was told by the lady at Samsung that is only needed 4.3 (this was via an only chat).
and was just told again by a new agent that the S2 would work if it has 4.3 on it. I took a screen shot of both conversations...

The Samsung Galay S2 is now 3.5 years old and reached its EoL, (End of Life), 1.5 years ago with the last official release being Android 4.1.2. There are and will be, no further official updates or support for this model to Android 4.2.2 or Android 4.3. Whilst there are some custom ROMs available for the SGS2 that show Android 4.4.4, NEAT ROM for instance, these are custom AOSP ROMs that are heavily adapted to work with the S2's hardware. The first model of phone to receive Android 4.3, (which was designed to support the Gear), officially, was the Samsung Galaxy S3.
