rooted sprint htc evo 4g can't wifi tether

Lurker
hi, new to the forum. i just rooted my sprint htc evo 4g, not the lte, but the original. i have superuser. i've been browsing around looking for apps that work to tether via wifi and not just bluetooth or wired. i've tried a few but they're either blocked or don't work like foxfi. am i missing a setting or what? which apps are known to work for this application on the sprint network as of feb. 2013. as you may have noticed i'm a noob so please keep the answer void of any acronyms or special lingo, haha!

Some carriers tend to block this capability on their own software. It may not be an option on that phone from factory settings.

Try PDA Net. Not sure how this works currently, but it was big a few years ago.

Tried dragons suggestion. No go. In the meantime while trying peoples suggestions, anyone know of a usb tethering app that currently works for my phone/service combo? Blue tooth works on open garden well, but it's limited in speed to somewhere around 2Mb/s (micro USB 2.0 is actually close to only "full speed" USB, aka USB 1.0, but that's at least 10-12Mb/s)

is there not a file i can delete or modify to render sprints control on what apps i download and/or how those apps behave with built in wifi hotspot? which leads me to another question what are the proper settings for said program? do i disable it in the app manager or leave it intact?

by factory settings are you referring to root or rom status of my device? my phone is rooted with super user on, but i'm running a factory rom (just deleted/froze bloatware). thanks for the feedback.
