Root Rooted stock... get new update?

I have a rooted stock rezound. Last update all I had to do was relock to get the update. This time when I relock and try to get the update it fails on installation. Is there something different now?

I'm having the same issue. I looked and got the error "wrong taskID 270509E:Error in /cache/fumo/OTAPkg.zip (Status 1)"

Help? :-(

youll need to be runing the stock recovery as well. there are alot of factors that need to be correct in order for the OTA to apply. it used to be that if you were stock and had the stock recovery in place, you were good to go. its unfortuantly become alot more complicated.

this is one of those things that you will have to deal with if you wish to have a rooted phone.

you can try and restore a 100% stock nandroid and try the OTA as long as youre running the stock recovery,it may work it may not.

you may have to RUU to the most recent release build-3.14.605.12,and let the phone OTA from there. when its all finished, you can reinstall superuser. be aware that you may have similar issue each time there is an OTA available.

the best option, prolly,is to simply freeze a file called "updater" with TiBu or equivalent. there is allreeady a stock rom that is falshable from recovery on xda,its a matter of time before someone else provides the firmware file.

the best way to deal with OTAs,IMO,is not to take them. freeze updater and be patient... someone will always provide a rom and firmware so that you can update manually without running full RUUs and letting the phone dowload and apply large OTA files.

yeah i meant I had stock recovery and rooted stock.

It like starts to install then about a quarter of the way in it goes to the red exclaimation. Hope someone at xda fixes an update file for us to run soon.

I got an error when I was relocking using a batch file I set up so I may try to relock again and see what happens. (although it does say relocked tampered)

Also going to try the "temporary unroot" option in superuser to see if that helps.

I had rooted stock before the February update came out, and it threw my root into some sort of half-root. I was no longer able to tether (free or paid) and now I think I'll have to completely reroot. Given, I'm an idiot, but still... :)

The OTAs (even that small one they had) will break root and you have to re-root. The trick at the moment is getting the update in the first place if you're rooted. It downloads, goes to reboot, then when installing it stops about 1/4 way done and goes to the red exclamation point.

Update: I tired re-locking again and tried the temp unroot. neither worked. Still get 1/4 way though and they get the red exclamation mark.

yup... just relaunch recovery, and reflash superuser. youll be using root apps again in no time :)

i havent forgot about you guys,as soon as my phone charges, ill flash the global rom and try and capture the OTA so you can get the firmware as well.

I saw the firmware download yesterday and the stock file, but I was under the impression it would wipe my data from my phone which I was hoping to avoid. (don't mind having to reroot but redownloading all the apps and settings and data kinda sux).

you can try a "dirty flash" in attempt to keep your data, but be prepaired to wipe and reflash if you have issues(force closes, reboots, etc). you can stay where you are by freezing the "updater" script.

also, there are links and directions to flash the new firmware
http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/716364-newest-global-rom.html

to ease resetup use titanium backup or equivalent to backup user apps so you wont lose associated app data. there are also apps to save sms and call logs if those are important :)

I may try the "dirty flash" but I also wanted to test another theory I had first.

Quick question on Nandroid/AmonRa. Not too firmiliar with using them as I haven't really had a need. Is there anyway to backup settings, apps, etc, from here so that I could just say, flash the updated system and then "restore" all apps, settings, etc from the backup without restoring old OS files? I tried titanium before and it only partially worked at restoration and I still had to install some stuff from android market/amazon app store.

i froze updater two days ago but last night my phone continues to try to download firmware and update and it won't stop. Just confirmed its still frozen. This is driving me nutz. I may just run RUU to get the update and deal with F'd up settings, etc from the wipe.

UPDATE: Trying to deforst the updater gives me an error .apk not found

hmm. thats very interesting. admittedly, ive not really had experience with the freezing of updater,as i usually run non-stock roms. ive just read that the rom shouldnt check for updates with updater frozen or deleted.

there is not a good way that i know of. data is saved and backed up based on the roms framework,so restoring those details may look for things in places where there are no longer things

if you tried to restore only your data partition on the new rom,or attempted to restore all user and system data with titanium, the results can be anything from FCs to sporadic reboots,to not booting at all.

my advice would be:
-make a backup
-dirty flash new rom
-if you have troubles, either a)wipe slate and do fresh install, or b)restore backup and stay where you were. :)

Well I wiped my phone and updated. Forgot that to unlock it would wipe anyway so I unlocked again, updated the sw, relocked, updated the firmware, then unlocked... oh well next few days will be recovery of everything... Since I'm going through the trouble if there ever is another update (don't say it won't happen my Incredible just got an update mid->late last year). Does anyone have an updated RUU (or if I need a replacement and want a "valid" warranty)

i would make sure you make an unrooted, stock, bloated backup,as there isnt an ruu for the newest global update yet. htc seems to have stopped leaking them like they used to,so a stock nandroid may be the only way to restore if one doesnt pop up.

Damn. I may have to go S-Off and downgrade to the old one. I used the files from the xda forums that everyone else used to upgrade, my issues is my phone keeps randomly shutting off now (not reboot but like I go to check it and its off). Its getting really annoying.

I have OS monitor installed and I'm seeing stuff like Notice CPU1: shutdown and my battery is at 83% after just pulling it off charger 20 mins ago.

Update: Not sure if it will help or not but I guess I will boot into Amon when I get home, wipe again, and restore again. Just sucks to have to do it again after just wiping it and setting it up sat and sun.

Didn't work gonna have to s off and load old ruu then do ota to latest. If its still crapping out then guess I need a new phone

did you install the new firmware as well?

also, did you make a backup of 3.14.605.14? mihgt just restore that, and see if your prollem disapears.

yes installed the firmware.

had a backup but it appears to be corrupt file.

tried to unroot with setverlow.zip and older ruus (ics and GB) but got hboot error 44 from the exe.

yup... changing the main version will let you downgrade software, but not firmware. im afraid youre stuck with hboot 1.28 and its associsated firmware as long as your s on. :(

failing a backup, you might just flash a 3.12.605.12/.13 bAsed stock rom and see what happens :)

Interesting after all the failed attempts to run ruu and wiping and locking and unlocking it seems to be stable now, although I haven't reloaded anything. Recent lockups though yesterday all I had reinstalled was titanium backup and wifi teether. Found an old nandroid backup from before I rooted ics so I think I may try to put that on then update via ota and make another backup then reroot
