Root Rooted stock... get new update?

Just thought of this. I think the NANDroid backup i just put on is either GB or after the first ICS OTA. Having just updated the hboot/firmware and being as the sw in my backup is now like 8-10 months old, will this brick my phone when it checks sw version etc at boot? I don't mind softbrick I'll just lock and unlock in fastboot I'm just worried about hard bricking it.

success backup was .12 problem is now its prompting me to update firmware. it does then it reboots when it comes back on and still says i need the firmware install. so i gotta find zip file updates for .13 and .14 that are stock to update to.

I am stock rooted with permanent recovery. I keep getting the repeated firmware updates that fail to load. I am still rooted. Is there anyway to kill the firmware update? I use mybackup pro and frozen the updater. I also froze HTCdm too. Any other ideas? Will I need to install new firmware and reboot?

I meet install new firmware and reroot using info from this thread.

you can install the new firmware, but that will not neccessarily stop the OTA notifications, unless you flash the new rom as well.

if you want to stay on 3.12.605.13,then try wiping caches and then look for the OTAPkg in download folders. eliminating the download from the phone, along with the apps youve frozen may keep it from pestering you :)

well i wiped my phone several times and finally thought I had it good. Unfortunately yesterday and a few times today it shut off. I am wondering if I had a bad firmware file. Going to try to reinstall the firmware and hope that it fixes it. If not i guess its time for a new phone.

Also I have noticed it will not shut off while plugged in. I thought this may be battery connection but I cleaned the connections and still have the issue. Additionally the battery level drops whens its off/locked up (in battery usage there is the line then a big black gap then when it turns back on the line starts lower.) Thinking of trying to find my wifes old battery (she has the extended battery now) and see if my battery is breaking down or something.

I was considering it. That was also my plan if i had to exchange it so that it would say "locked" instead of relocked tampered.

well, there ya go! go for it. with s off,you can remove all the watermarks and be stock,locked,s-on for warranty.

looking at the S-Off Instructions it says you have to be STOCK RUU not even stock rooted. Could be an issue for me as the ROM file circulating is rooted stock not just stock. I tried removing root files from the zip but I don't know if that will be good enough.

the statement that you need to be on the stock ruu is a bit confusing. they mean that you should be stock, with superuser installed. the rom linked in the OP is that,it should be fine. unforutnately, there is not a stock ruu to run.

you DO need to be rooted for jp bear to work. so dont remove any root files! and if you did,put them back by reflashing superSU in recovery. (or reflashing the rom) :)

the only hitch is that windows is no longer supported, there are some tips here if youre nervous about linux: http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...me-pointers-running-juopunut-bear-ubuntu.html

also, sorry for the late reply :o

yeah real confusing because it say "You are on Stock RUU (not FreshROM, Stock Rooted, HarmonyROM - none of these will work!)" ie sounding like don't be rooted. Doesn't matter though cause I realized one of my Amon Ra was stock. (keep forgetting about that one).
