Root rooted / unlocked... ???

That's a bit of an open ended question :). When we say unlocked nand, we mean that security has been turned off, and you can make permanent changes to locked partitions and firmware. This is known as S-OFF, which you will see in hboot. If you turn the phone off then turn it back on while pressing volume down, it will take you there. You will see either S-ON or S-OFF. S-OFF means nand is unlocked. To make it useful, you need a custom recovery. If you select recovery in hboot, it will take you to either the stock recovery (useless) or a custom one such as CW or RA. The last part is a rooted ROM, which means you have superuser permissions in the ROM. If you can open the terminal emulator and type "su" without quotes and have the prompt change from $ to #, then your ROM is rooted. It's easy to get a rooted ROM with S-OFF, though.

All that being said, if you rooted with unrevoked, then you have all three of the above (S-OFF, Clockwork recovery, and a rooted ROM). If you rooted with something like z4root, then you only have a rooted ROM, and can do nothing more than run root-only apps.
