Root Rooting 2.2.1 or downgrade?

Yes.

No, you don't have to downgrade.

There's two ways to root the A855 with FRG83D/2.2.1. One is the use of a custom recovery only .sbf file, the most popular is for now this:

Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

The other way is to use the RATC (rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin) exploit by Sebastian Kramer. One of the easiest was with z4root, but more and more are reporting that it doesn't work for the A855. The next one is with Super One Click (google it, it's over a xda). There's also one manual method posted here at this site, but leaves you without a custom recovery:

And then there's another one that will give you the cutsom recovery:

Root the A855 without RSD Lite + make it ROM ready

good luck

I tried using RSD Lite. Everything was going fine until the Flashing part. RSD said phone is Re-emurating(so for everything is going fine), then it says "Failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. Pho......." what went wrong????

Is there any way to post the rest of the error message? Actually maybe you should try one of the other methods, I've read that Super One Root seems to be the easiest, since rSD Lite can be finicky and I'm not very good at troubleshooting it anyways.

Google superoneroot, the thread is over at xda-developers, and make sure you follow all the instructions. Then, to finish it off, you'll want to get rom manager (free) from the market and use it to flash a custom recovery.

good luck
