Strange that your stock kernel does not conform to the usual number and letter convention!

Try the LPW root kernel as that matches your build.***

Prior to doing anything, first make a note of the information displayed when you enter...

*#1234# into the dial pad in case you need to re-flash your firmware.

*** If for any reason LPW does not work, you could try flashing the Siyah S2 kernel, .TAR version via Odin, from here.

Hi
Just getting all my facts together before I root :)

I have exactly the same stock firmware as guss. I have a couple of questions:
- If i need to flash back to the stock ROM and kernel, where would I find these? I've searched, and found others with the same odd kernel, just havent found any download links for it. Just wondering coz theyre unusual, and need to cover my base just in case of warranty claim :)
- I have read that flashing Siyah kernel will be compatible with all versions of SII, without having to match the original kernel first. Is this true?

Many thanks :)

You can download stock Samsung firmwares, which include the stock kernel, from SamMobile. Link and flashing instructions for this are in post #1, here.

Correct! The only two types of Siyah kernel are for Gingerbread, v2, and ICS, v3 and, currently, v4.

Awesome! Thanks so much for your help and quick reply... so much easier to get help on here than XDA :) I hope get a better understanding by practicing, so I wont be a n00b :)

So flashing the firmware from SamMobile will restore the stock rom and kernel... then its up to a usb jig or triangle away to make it look 'untouched'? for a warranty claim that is.

And, do you recommend flashing the very latest (4.1.5) version of Siyah?? Or is a previous version more stable/better battery life? I've read good things about 4.1.4, but can only see links for 4.1.5 on his site. So is 4.1.5 recommended?

Thanks again!

There are 3 methods of resetting the flash counter, shown in posts #1 and #2, here:-

Awesome!! I already had the 'Rooting Galaxy S2 - A dummies guide' bookmarked, thats the process I was going to follow but with Siyah kernel rather than CF. And in terms of 4.1.4 vs 4.1.5, point taken. I will start with the latest and see how I go :)

Sorry for bringing this back up to the top. I too have the unconventional kernel!

Did rooting with the kernel matching the build number work for you?? Mine would be LPG in this case, but yours would have been LPW.

Let me know as I need to get mine rooted again to install a different modem. :)

Thanks
