Rooting 4.04

I have an official software update that I think is 4.04 showing on kies. The firmware is something like:LPY LQ6 LPF

Can someone please tell me if the following is the correct CF-root to use to root my phone should I update it?

CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXI_LPF-v5.5-CWM5.zip

Also, in superuser I have an option saying something like 'keep root after update'. Is this reliable? Has someone done this already and didn't lose root? Have a funny feeling it's just asking for a bricking if I select it!!

Thanks so much in advance!

You could be right. I actually needed 'LPY', but i can't find any that match that so perhaps LPX is ok....i don't know, not going to risk it unless i can be 100% sure to be honest. Will stick with shitty 4.0.3 unless someone chimes in. Bugger.

EDIT: Would this be ok?

CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPX-v5.6-CWM5.zip

Anyone? PLEASE HELP A NOOB!

you need to match your CF-root to the KERNEL currently on your phone.

if you update your phone to LPY, then go to settings>about phone, note your kernel version, then just find the CF-root file that matches closest.

Sorry dude, totally missed your advice. OK, if I understand correctly I first update THEN I match the kernel. I'm just worried that if I do update that there won't be a kernel available to root, or is that unlikely? I suspect it will be xxxLPY needed and I can't find that on xda website, which is why i've avoided updating so far.

There's always a kernel that's close enough to root of you update to a standard firmware

Thanks for this. I went for it, but Kies keeps crashing on me just before starting the update. OTA update also failed so wondering if selecting survival mode on superSU is causing the issue.

Guess have to do without survival mode and for sure having to root again......I think will just wait for JB in that case.

EDIT: OK, i went for it again, and as predicted lost root even though had it selected to suvive in superSU. Anyway, my

kernel version is given as 3.0.15-1114882dpi@DELL163#3
Baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Build: IMM76D.XWLPY

Can someone please tell me which CF Root kernel i need to root again please? I would be super grateful for any help from you awesome people!!!

Firestud had a similar kernel, he ended up matching his build version rather than his kernel version and it worked, so you could try the LPY, it should work: CF-Root Download

Alternatively, Ironass has previously recommended a method that doesn't use a root kernel such as here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105

You are a star! I will give this a go tonight and report back - think it should be ok with the LPY kernel too.

4.04 is very good also - like the small changes and hopefully better with email/battery life issues.
