Root Rooting .605 - Couple Q's

Hey everyone!

I have a Samsung Droid Charge so I'm familiar a bit with rooting, but I know the X has a very different process.

My mom has a Droid X on the .605 version and she's getting messages from Verizon asking her to accept an update to her phone. I know the next step from .605 is the dreaded .621 so I've told her to DENY these requests at all costs! So what I want to do now, is root her phone and then load MIUI onto it, because I believe it'll be easier for her to use. MIUI looks pretty sweet. Wish we had that on the Samsung Charge! :D

So, here are my Q's:

- In my reading, the phone has to be rooted first. I rooted her phone before when she was on Froyo with Z4 but that obviously does not work on Gingerbread. Is this a reliable guide: How to: Root the DROID2, DROIDX2, DROIDX, and DROID3 Running Gingerbread – Droid Life If not, what is the preferred method?
- Once the phone is rooted, I just follow the instructions to root via the MIUI thread correct? Nothing else to do before hand?
- Should I SBF to another system version first (like .602)? Or is .605 fine?
- Once all this is done, I want to stop those Verizon messages once and for all. Mom has Titanium Backup (paid) on her phone now so I know I can freeze the updater app, but would renaming it to xxxxxxxx.bak be preferred?

Thanks in advance, y'all!!! :D

The Droid Life directions seem to be the same as what we have on the forums here:

No need to SBF to 602. 605 is fine.

I renamed the updater to bak instead of using TiBu. Not sure if freezing it works (I'm guessing it would).

As for MIUI...this is anecdotal, but I've been noticing a lot of problems on these forums from people using MIUI or trying to change to something else from MIUI or trying to SBF from MIUI. I tried it at one point, wasn't that impressed and went with Liberty3 v2.

Thank you for the reply!

Good info on .605 and also MIUI. I figured since it would be easy for an older lady to use, but if it's got problems and things, probably better to stick with a proven ROM. I've heard good things about Liberty so I'll check it out!

Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate it! :)

One more question for ya: does the phone need to be on .605 or .602 to flash Liberty3 2.0? Or does it not matter?

I ask because my wife owns a X as well and she's still on Froyo. I was going to flash and rom her phone too but the latest Linux.iso CD sbf version is .602. I suppose I can let the OTA update run after sbf-ing, but I'm terrified of that .621! ;)

Gaining root and flashing Liberty3 onto my Mom's DX went great! Not a hitch! I pretty jealous of this ROM actually. I'm rockin a custom ROM on my Charge, but Liberty3 beats it out. Very polished and feature packed!

Can't wait till my wife gets home so I can ROM her DX too.
