Root Rooting a 6mo old phone

dtg

Lurker
This might be a super-trivial question, but I haven't really found an answer. I have an Incredible that's about 6 months old, so I have a good bit of data/contacts/apps/etc on it. What happens to all of that when I root my phone? Is there a way to back all of this up? Is rooting like reformatting a hard drive, or does application data (and apps) stay?

Thanks in advance

Everything stays when you root. Rooting just gives you deeper security access. It allows you to do things like using the app SetCPU, or backing up your app to your SD card, etc. It's only when you do things like loading a custom ROM that you need to wipe the phone's internal memory (not the SD card) that you lose data, settings, etc. If you do decide to do that, there are ways to back everything up.

Ok, cool. I rooted my phone in order to get stuff like wifi tethering and moving my apps to the SD card (the latter of which I'm still figuring out), and as promised, everything stayed. If I want to flash another ROM though, is there a way to put all my apps and data on the new ROM? There's a ton of info on these forums and I'm sure it's there somewhere, but it's really hard to sift through, thanks

I might have found my answer... if I perform a Titanium Backup before flashing, then flash, then download Titanium Backup and so a restore, should that work? Titanium backs up to the SD card, right?
