Root rooting a samsung captivate

I have done everything as far as getting up to the point where the samsung one click root comes. I hit the buttom and the green screen comes up then the blue screen follows with telling me after my phone reboots to click the lower volume button then hit the power button.
Well, my phone doesn't reboot. What's up with it. I'm new at this. Thanks

Is your phone set on USB debugging? If not, should be, then mount as storage device.

Make sure the one click you're using has the "update.zip" file in it. If not re-download and try again. :confused:
 
ive attached a file to this post. its a modded 3e recovery file, that skips the verification check. its straight from the xda site, so its legit, just cant seem to find the site address at the moment. thought i had it bookmarked.

How do I install this? Says to place in system/bin, however since I'm not rooted, I cannot Write to this folder.
