Root Rooting an HTC EVO Shift for Dummies! (Last Updated 3/24/2010)

I've been rooted now for over 3 months doing these procedures.

Can I remove the 'HTC Sync' app from my phone and the 'HTC Sync' program installed on my laptop??

I don't seem to need then for any reasons. Thanks!
 
So, I'm still trying to temproot with VISIONary+

I tried the guide way (temproot and then reboot with temproot), and all that happens is my phone turns on and then VISIONary+ loads, says it is trying to root my phone, and then goes to a black screen.

I also tried the "Airplane mode" method, where I did not select temproot, but merely the temproot on reboot option while in airplane mode. The resuslts are the same.

After at least twenty reboots or so, I thought I'd ask the obvious: Am I missing something?

Keep checking in, the devs will probably get root at some point soon for the update. This thread (I'm sure) will blow up when that day comes...;)

God I hope that day is soon. I got my Evo Shift about 2 weeks ago, immediately applied the updates knowing nothing about how they were "unrootable", and tried for 3 days to root it until I found out we cant.

I'm so looking forward to the day I can remove the bloatware (3 twitter apps??? C'MON WTF)
 
So, I found an install for HTC Sync and installed it. But it says no devices are connected. How to fix this?
The thing is, when I got the phone, i took out the SD and put in mine and now cant find the original so I couldnt pull HTC Sync off my phone to install.

EDIT: Nevermind, just read above cant root yet. Oh bugger!
 
Please help! I followed the directions to the "T", but when I got up to the command prompt, I followed the steps, typed "abd shell", I hit enter and got the $. When I typed "su", permission was denied for the "Superuser". Please help. All of the steps were fine so far up until this point. Thanks a millie for your help.
 
in step 5 i click "5. Next, download the VISIONary app from Here and save it on your desktop." and it wont let me download the app. and it redirects me to another page saying that the webpage cannot be found!!! help please!!! email me im new at this d.ruiz4214@gmail.com
 
I got to the part where my su permission was denied, then remembered I was on GB.

Is there anything I have to do to remove my progress to this point? Will it run stably or should I go through the "Unrooting" process as described on page 1?
 
You are good to go. Nothing you did was permanent. maybe a reboot just to be safe, but you shouldn't see any effects from the attempt.
 
UPDATE: I changed the visionary link to z4root. I can confirm it still works with visionary however. Finding a visionary r14 download is fairly easy.

ALSO, you will need to downgrade your software if you upgraded to gingerbread. This method works from froyo.

Use google to find out how to do this. It is fairly easy using the command prompt.
 
If I follow steps 1 thorugh 6 (I dont want to risk bricking or voiding any warranty), I will have temporary root access correct? Will this allow me to remove the bloatware apps (such as Footprints, AmazonMP3, etc) that come preloaded and "unremoveable" on the phone?
