rooting and flashing to cricket

So this is what I been searching for the answer too. I was given this Sprint hero from a buddy that now has evo. I have cricket so I flashed for talk text and web. I'm running 1.5. Can I a.) Upgrade to 2.1 or froyo or 2.3 gingerbread and then flash to cricket ?

B.) Also I was reading a thread saying I can have cricket without proxy and apps working by changing roms or rooting and then doing some more steps.


Anyone that can help me out with either I would he forever grateful
