Root Rooting and S-OFF

If I was to root my evo through dev unlock would I still be able to exchange my phone through virgin mobile in case of a defect or some other non-root related problem?

I don't see why not. I mean, I used to do stuff to my Triumph, and left it as it was when I returned it to VM when having one of the many problems that phone had. They never said a thing about it

I doubt it would void the warranty for hardware purposes. If you have a bad charging port or the like, I don't see how they could claim it was from unlocking/rooting, but you never know. VM has been pretty good about that sort of thing in the past, so I wouldn't count on them saying it was voided because of that.

If there is something software related (i.e. you bricked your phone) they would probably saw that wasn't under warranty.

This thing's pretty hard to brick anyways..I believe with the Juopunutbear wire trick, jmz got a guy who was bricked back to fully working in a jiffy. I'm staying S-ON because I'm paranoid and I can still use custom ROMs/kernels that way, but that safety net is there.
