Root Rooting Android 4.2.2

Hi there,

I have read that Android 4.2.2 is apparently being pushed to Nexus 4 :)

Now at the moment my phone is not rooted, if i update to Android 4.2.2 will i be able to root the phone?

Also, do i need to always need to flash a custom recovery image to get root access? I thought if i did fastboot oem unlock you would get root?

I appreciate if someone could advise what i should do and whether i am on the right lines?

I assume the same root methods will work, if not there'll be an updated method quickly posted. You can be rooted and still receive OTA updates (use Voodoo OTA RootKeeper) but with custom recovery installed I believe it precludes you from receiving any updates OTA.

Fastboot oem unlock will unlock your bootloader, rooting is a separate step. This thread should have everything you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688

With an unlocked bootloader, there is no need to rely on security exploits in order to obtain root. Just flash or boot your favorite custom recovery, and then flash the su binary(in flashable zip format.)

Thanks, will i still get OTA updates? If not, is it just a matter of flashing a rooted OTA update?

Also can i use ADB to backup the current apps and settings before i unlock the bootloader? This is because when I rooted my HTC Desire i never had to back up my apps/settings when i rooted it.

Thanks in advance,
