Root Rooting CDMA Desire 2.2

My desire is v2.2
hboot 1.06.0000
I'm with Alltel
I'm so sick and tired of the low storage notification.
I'm constantly having to free up stuff to make it go away.
I also hate not being able to take screenshots.
I've put up with it this long because I've been so scared of messing my phone up like before.
Now I'm thinking if I ask the right questions and read up, I will hopefully be ok.
So for my question....I read earlier that it can't be done since it's 2.2 and unrevoked and all of those programs gave everyone errors.
So any advice on safely rooting my phone?
I read a few posts on here, but I was so confused as to which to use, because one post gave links for hboots lower than mine.
Anything else you need to know about it, let me know.
Thanks

Congrats :)

I sent a PM on this. There are many fewer ROMs for CDMA than for GSM. There are a few listed here, and some others claim to work on both (though not everyone has found that to be true!).

Depends on what you want. How keen are you on Sense? If you can live without it, from that list I'd be tempted to try CM7 (though booby trap alert: you need to add google apps and a2sd as extras with CM7). But being GSM myself (and living in a country where CDMA phones don't work at all) I've little knowledge of CDMA ROMs.

make a nandroid backup first in recovery, then a full wipe/factory reset before flashing your new rom.

google apps is flashed the same way from recovery afterwards.Never used CM, so cant comment on the apps2sd

Yes, repeated for emphasis, you need to fully wipe (factory reset - you can do that from recovery) when installing a different ROM. If you try just wiping cache and dalvik but leaving /data intact, then flash CM7, it will not boot. The system settings (part of the data partition) will be incompatible between different ROMs.

The rooting faq, in the All Things Root Guide sticky post, has a brief description of the process of ROM flashing. You should back up all apps and data you wish to keep beforehands - Titanium Backup is good for apps, a separate SMS backup app is recommended for messages, and back up contacts to sd or to GMail. Boot into recoevry. Take a backup (the "nandroid", needed in case anything goes wrong). Wipe. Flash new ROM (and google apps, if ROM is CM). Boot, reinstall the backup apps from the market. Restore apps and data from backups.

It's a hassle, but you get used to it :)

If you wish to use a2sd (to gain space), you should partition your sd card first. The root memory faq (linked in same place) discusses this. Back up your card before partitioning! Again a hassle, but you only do it once.

A2SD is a separate add-on with CM. When I used it I would flash the DarkTremor a2sd script, but the similar one linked from most CM threads on XDA is fine, and some people prefer the "simple2ext" app which you install from the market. All work.

It's best to do the reading, make sure you know what's involved and get it right the first time :)

Thanks so much for your help :)
I decided to give Oxygen a try..just for the heck of it.
It was cool, nearly blinding me though. Wasn't used to that bright green on black lol so I just did a nandroid restore until I can work with it some more.
I'm downloading gparted now so I can partition my sd card later since I really want more space!
I'll probably check back in, hopefully I won't screw anything up! Thanks a lot for your help so far!
