Root Rooting confusion

Hi all. I have no idea what rooting is or its purpose. Is it something I should do? I have been reading through the posts but all the technical wording confuses me lol. Can anyone help?

Root if you like fiddling with your phone. Don't root if you are happy with your phone the way it is.

Rooting means gaining full administrator ("root") permissions on a system, so that you can install or change anything in the deep down parts that are inaccessible to normal users.

It's something you probably shouldn't do unless you understand what you're doing, and really need it.

Thank you for the info. I probably will not root since I can get an upgrade in a few months. I did get Go Launcher and its pretty neat!

I'd call Verizon global (the number is on your phone) to get the SIM unlock code just because.
