Root Rooting done but - Apps to SD ?

heya guys
i have just rooted my desire and its fine, i did a back up too so ive not lost anything and its working fine, but im trying to still figure out how to make a default setting of some kind so my apps save to my SD card rather than internal memory. any ideas?

also im trying to become more aware of the benefits of rooting now ive done it besides the increase in phone performance etc and things like that.

this is the thing, im not an idiot and im quiet computer savvy but i cannot for the life of me figure out what a ROM is for me to tell you. is it similar to an operating system or not?

Yes, there are various custom android ROMs floating around for the desire, plus the stock roms too, which come with the phone.
