Root Rooting Droid 2 Global?

Hey everyone! I really want to root my Droid 2 GLobal. I want to be able to customize it the way I want. From my understanding and what I have been told is that you can take themes and what not from different android phones that you like and put it on yours? If i'm am totally incorrect please tell me.

I have never done anything like this before and am not tech savvy so anyone that can help me with step by step instructions on what exactly to do would be great!

What are the awesome benefits of rooting a Droid 2?
