Root Rooting Droid x2

Receiving a new dx2 on Tuesday to replace my fascinate. I know that they just
Released or going to release gingerbread update for dx2. My question is can the dx2 be rooted if I upgrade to gingerbread or should I not do the GB and root with gingerbreak. If this is the case could so someone point me in the right direction for rooting with gingerbreak. I have done some research and still a little confused. Thanks.

Here's the scoop on rooting Gingerbread in the DX2, nike10:

Your thread is not in the DX2 All Things Root sub-forum so others can help you out with all this. ;)

I got my Droid X2 yesterday and worked on it for a while yesterday with very little success. My previous phone was a droid X (wife's also) which I rooted using Superoneclick, worked great by the way, so when I got the Droid X2 I tried to root using the same method and could not get it to work. After some looking around on this forum and a couple others, I decided to try Gingerbreak to root my new X2. I went ahead and backed up my micro SD card because of a warning that it might be cleared, and proceeded. I downloaded the file from XDA developers http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=578771&d=1303829207 to my PC and then copied to my X2 via usb cable, as instructed. It was a very fast process and worked flawlessly. I didnt lose anything on my SD card and phone seems to be working perfectly! So far I couldnt be happier with the X2!

Wow I'm really confused as what to use. When I get my phone I should not do the OTA gingerbread update, is that correct. The fascinate was easy and I'm sure the dx2 is also, but still have not figured it out yet.

Google xda developers droid x2 p3 droid gingerbread root. There is a way to both get gingerbread and root if you don't do the OTA update. Its intimidating, but relatively easy. It's easiest if you don't make ANY changes to your phone (it should allow you to skip the sbf and factory wipe, I think.) I would recommend you read the instructions 3 or more times prior to doing ANY of it.

I am pretty sure you dont want to take the OTA GB, you want to root Froyo then apply P3D's pre-rooted GB file.
