Root Rooting for dumbies

Hey everybody, just got my HTC Desire for christmas two days ago and I am in love with it already (I finally get why everybody's going nuts over them). I want to get the most out of it and have heard a lot about rooting it. I know a little about computers but not enough to know the lingo... If somebody could give me the run down on "rooting" and why I might want to do it or how I should go about it that would be awesome!!! Merry Christmas

I also recommend rooting. It's an added bonus on any phone, but is especially useful on the Desire because of the limited internal storage. Rooting allows you to remove any bloatware and also means you can flash a custom ROM which supports Apps2SD+.
