Root Rooting for Dummies FAQ?

Is there a rooting for dummies FAQ?
Is there a one or two-click way to do it?

As soon as my usbtogo cable arrives from HongKong, I wanna give this a shot.

Yep the root kit posted above is super simple. I've done it way too many times :o.
Biggest thing is do not unplug before it's done.

THANKS!

I actually got it in the mail today. It was scheduled to arrive yesterday. I ordered it on July 26th, so that's not too bad at all. I have had things take 6 weeks to arrive, before. Anyway...now my baby is charging and I'm going to take a stab at this later today. Will update.

Oh wait, one more thing I forgot to ask about. My system is 64 bit, Windows 7. Will this pose any problems?

OK, update!

Oh, dang it! I did something wrong right from the start. I forgot to download those other drivers. It hung on the adb check thing. Now I'm looking for the drivers the previous attempt installed.

OK, deleted those. Now I'm unsure how to install those drivers I downloaded from Atmazz's link. Clicking instead on the "install Samsung drivers" button in Manual Step Two.

Now I'm on Step 3a, attempting to locate the Samsung Device Drivers on my own, only they are not shown in the list. Hmm...ok. Now I'm going to open up that other .rar file and see what's there.

OK, the .rar was PDAnet for an android phone. It would not install because it couldn't find a phone. I went back to the device manager window and right-clicked "uninstall device" and scanned for new hardware. This time an ADB thing popped up so now I'm on to Step 4.

The button says "List ADB Devices." I'm clicking it and nothing is happening.

Did ctrl-alt-del, stopped the process on the toolkit and re-ran it. This time the List ADB Devices (Step 5) works and moving on...

The instructions say to look for "Samsung device drivers" but for some reason mine were listed as "Android device drivers." Maybe this seems like a small thing, but I was stumped, and unsure whether this actually worked. I still don't know for sure... Nothing happened in Step 8 when I clicked on "Reboot Device." I just hit the power button. now I'm backing up some data.

OK, now I'm rooting. Oops, I forgot to unlock first.

Oops, forgot about that. Yeah, ignore the samsung drivers thing. If root fails is OK. The app isn't doing anyting but running batch files running adb commands. You'll be OK.

It worked! I think... !!!!

I forgot to give Busybox super status but it installed anyway. Now to test with stickmount.

Oh, I DID give the busybox super user after all. Because I remember the red number counting down. I wasn't paying enough attention to what that actually meant, my bad.

IT WORKS!!! I can see and open files from my flash drive.

Works like a charm!!! :)

Thank you, everyone, especially Unforgiven and Atmazzz for your help!!!!!! :D

Nope, because I don't know what that is... What does it do?

You don't have to install it. If you ever want to try a rom or back up your whole system you would need to do it with CWM or TWRP recovery. They have an option for installing a zip, which is the format of most roms.

If you just want to be rooted you don't need it.
