So, I want to root my eris. It is on 2.1 firmware, is there an easy way to get the 2.2 froyo? I have no idea what I am doing and I just want to be extra careful doing this.

"Universal Eris Root For Dummies" Look in the posts. Follow the steps. Then flash the 2.2 rom of your choice.

In my opinion if you follow the link above it doesnt get any easier. There are several different ways under the Sticky for rooting. This one works perfect and once your done you can flash any rom you want.

i read thru the universal 1 click thread and then used the eris 1 click root app avaialbe in the market. i defintely doesnt get any easier than that
particularly helpful are some posts on pages 3 and 4 with step by step directions,complete with screen shots.
unless its now being incorporated into the 1 click method,make sure you flash the "trackball optional" recovery mod found here: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html as it makes it possible to still do backups and install roms even if your tracball goes kaput
there are some links a few threads down about "best froyo roms"
thats about all i can offer,im new to this myself
