Ok, I'm tired of waiting on android 2.2. I've looked around and i would like to root my HTC hero to modacocustomrom 2.9 I would appreciate it if someone that 100% KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING to tell me. Step by step how to root my phone to the Rom mentioned above.. also I am on ALLTEL.... not Verizon nor Sprint.. Alltel.... please and thnx for the help

Altel phones are still CDMA I believe, so I've moved this to the Sprint (CDMA) section.

Alright. First of all. i dont know how to post new threads. So im making a question out of my original.. I have an HTC hero cdma on Alltel. and let me tell you its a piece of #### like not just any #### top of the line golden ####. Well anyway. I rooted. Downloaded a Rom renamed it update.zip used Rom manager. However Rom manager won't respond when i click on reboot into recovery so Rom manager is out of the picture. My recovery image is 2e so i don't have nandroid backup so I can't backup my Rom but idc since its so laggy and ###### . But any ideas. I've factory reset my phone did apply update.zip and it fails to verify image package. I've even took it to a small Verizon store and i new more then he did. Please help.. of no one will help me I'm going into alltel and telling them to do it lol...but someone please help.. I'm running Android 2.1-update 1 and I can't upload red dawn which is the rom... please help

Lets take it one step at a time, are you sure your phone is rooted, do you have the SU app in your app drawer ??

Have no clue what that is, download Rom manager from the market if you can and flash a recovery from that program

Recovery image 2e and that's what I'm trying to accomplish but it's a golden #### brick. And won't work..

As i have said Rom manager wont work. It's unresponsive when I click reboot into recovery or anything I can flash into clockworkmod however after that nothin works. I've read I for my phone need to flash to 2.5.1.0 but when I try to flash into that it says error flashing recovery. any ideas anyone.

Nope strange

Ok, I typed SU in capitals like that and it said permissions denied when o typed Su in lowercase Ot skipped a line and looked.like this ----> $su. <--- that's what it looked like when I typed it in. when I hit enter it did this. It skipped a line and went like this ------> $

MahaloCat is right. Just flash the alternate recovery which should be the Amon RA recovery.

I had the same issue where ClockworkMod Recovery would not flash after I rooted. I know I am definitely rooted because I am able to run root apps.

You aren't rooted.
It should go to a # Sign

Ha, that spurred me to download the Terminal Emulator app and make sure I was rooted even though root apps were working. To report back, yes, I did get the pound symbol. ;)

Now if only I could get rid of the Terminal Emulator app in the "My Apps" part of the Android Market after I uninstalled. Haha. :D

Wipe your market cache in settings...it will be gone!

: ) What you think I am Making stuff up! :D

Not at all! I was more worried that I did not have true root access because I ran into the same message the original poster did when trying to flash ClockworkMod Recovery. :)

Oh, and by the way, I just rebooted my handset and the uninstalled app went out of the "my Apps" list. Boy, I feel red in the face asking about that! :o

I am rooted. It's been verified that I am. I can do everything. I know I'm rootef because Rom manager said that I was. Their was multiple terminal emulators maybe I downloaded a different 1 than what I was supposed too.

I noticed there were multiple Terminal Emulator apps in the Android Market too. I just took the one that had more downloads and a higher rating.

Just flash the alternate recovery at the bottom of the list on ROM Manager. That should solve your problem.

when you typed SU did it request Super User permissions?

+1 Try this......

Uh. Permissions denied. And Rom manager says error occurred while flashing recovery image. And if I'm not rooted how do i become rooted

Well at this point if I were you since we are at a lost to what you have done and where you are at, I would start back from the beginning, Install the RUU and then root again and we will walk you through the process
