Root Rooting just for bluetooth keyboard

Over the past few days I've been thinking about possibly rooting my desire in order to connect a mini BT keyboard to it as FPSE was released the other day and a keyboard/gamepad would be essential in order to play smoothly. Unless I've missed something would rooting my desire be the only option I have in order to connect a BT keyboard or wiimote to it?

I was hoping maybe one of the admins or members with a good knowledge of the bluetooth on the desire could give me some direction

I have no idea about the bluetooth keyboard, but yes you need to be rooted (and possibly even custom rom) for wiimote to work.
