Requirements: Flashtool, an .ftf file of the firmware, DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit v18
1. Use Flashtool to update your device as per instructions here.
2. Use Flashtool to downgrade the kernel to a .423 version (.ftf file). On reboot your wifi will probably be nonfunctional; this is expected so don't panic yet!
3. Run the DoomLoRD root exploit as per instructions here.
4. Use Flashtool to reinstate the most recent kernel (reflash the firmware .ftf but exclude everything bar kernel, and uncheck all WIPE options)
5. Reboot, and enjoy root access!
Note: there are several .ftf files for various locales available for download in the Xperia Z - General forum @ XDA. The generic (unbranded) UK firmware can be found here.
