Root Rooting my HTC Desire

Grommett

Newbie
Sorry if this is in the Wrong Section, I am a little tired.

Hey all once again, I have a question for you today.
I have been considering Rooting my Device, I am HORRIBLE with Mobile Technology, and Wouldn't know the first thing about it.

What are the Pro's and Con's of Rooting your Device?

Off the top of my head.

Pro
1. Some useful apps require the phone to be rooted.
2. You can put on custom roms
3. you can get round some specific phone 'issues' (such as the lack of app space in the HTC Desire)

Cons
1. You invalidate the warranty (although you can get round this by reflashing a stock rom and bootloader)
2. You can end up bricking your phone, although this is extremely rare and unlikely
3. You have to start looking for and applying your own updates, no more automatic OTA ones (if you use a custom rom)

Hmm, The Odd's of Bricking my phone would be rather high as I have Terrible luck with almost everything I do :P

But I keep hearing about people Rooting there Phones *Insert witty Pun here* and getting better Response from the phone, Better Boot up time (Especially removing the God Awful Telstra boot).

I will admit I am worried, Is it REALLY worth it?

Chance of you bricking your phone is extremely slim. Rooting these days is pretty much a one click program, very easy and very safe. Although it will depend upon what type of phone you have.

Also, bear in mind that rooting and putting on a custom rom/modifying your phone are two different things. Simply rooting your phone won't really do anything at all, it will merely give you the ability to modify your phone.

That's when you need to start making choices, such as what you want to change and what rom you want to run.

If there are currently things that are annoying you about your phone, such as responsiveness etc. Then you may be better off rooting it and using a custom rom. Just make yourself aware of what's out there first for your phone.

Yeah the only Significant thing Bothering me is all of the Telstra Crap built in, If I am in my Music player I see a Bigpond link in the Corner, In my messaging screen I see a Send Card (Not actual words but something to the liking).

I am using a HTC Desire. Very Delicate with it.
I will PM you and we can Discuss this Tomorrow if that is ok?

ok. no problem.

Not sure how much help I'll be as I rooted my Desire way back last April and there are new rooting tools out now that I'm unfamiliar with, it was also bought unlocked so I don't know much about debranding and gold cards.....if you even need to use that method now.
