Root Rooting my LG Ally version 2.2.2

Hey guys, I know there's a lot of threads on this. I just DON'T wanna mess anything up, lol. I originally started my mission to root, on my old HTC Eris..using a 1click for Eris app that I downloaded right from the market. And I'm not sure what happened but half of the apps went missing, the virtual keyboard is all messed up, and if you try to switch input methods, it was in another language. No clue what happened.

And even last night when I was trying to figure it out on my Ally, it seemed like every time I clicked a link, it wasn't working..or the thread was like 4 yrs old (If that matters) And whether to use a "One Click" (which one to use..) or do it manually. My head is spinning.

So I've switched to the Ally, and now want to try again. Hopefully successfully. I need someone to lay it out SIMPLY for me, lol! Like, what to do first, before anything else. (Download anything, any kinda backups, etc. Just to be sure!) Then which method to use, even if it's a link to one in a forum (as long as the link is there and working, I got psyched out wayy to much last night, lol). Should the phone be in debugging mode and attached to the comp? Or do it right from the phone? As you can see, I'm rambling and you're probably not reading anymore. But if anyone can offer any advice, step-by-step guides (Literally!), or where to look..I would appreciate it SO much.

If it helps:

Android Version 2.2.2
Baseband Version VS740MVE.6040.1001
Kernal Version 2.6.32.9
lg-electronics@aloha #2
Build Number FRG83G
SW Version VS740ZVE

I went to LG website and think I downloaded the USB Driver? Nothing happened, no link to it anywhere.

Also, in the end, I'd like to speed it up a bit, customize more of the UI, or put 2.3 on if available.

Thank you SO much!

So what will happen after I finish that? Will the phone still look stock, should I download a backup app, I've seen people suggest Titanium. Also, how can I flash ROMS, am I able to put Android version 2.3 on here? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks though!

It will still look stock. It's just downgrading. It's the other guide at the bottom that can change its look. And stock Gingerbread on this phone can and won't happen. The only way you can get Gingerbread is through the working Project Bionic.

Will the phone still look stock
Yes. All this does is revert to an old firmware to get fastboot and then upgrade back to 2.2. The phone will look the same.

should I download a backup app
If you want to keep your apps, yes. But Titanium Backup won't work because you're not rooted yet.

how can I flash ROMS
There are currently 3 2.2 ROMS for the Ally. Velocity, StormDroid, and Frunisher. There's a thread listing all of them somewhere.
After you're rooted you should have a recovery. I recommend the amon ra recovery if you somehow end up with clockwork. I think there's also a guide on how to flash ROMS, but if there isn't I'll probably whip one up.

am I able to put Android version 2.3 on here?
Depends if you like wifi and 3g. There are two 2.3 ROMS but neither of them have a working radio because LG never made a 2.3 update for the Ally.

Also, this is my 300th post.

I'm still so confused =( I tried the link previously posted, but I couldn't figure out the file thing. Can't I just simply go to the market place and do the z4one click thing, or universal androot? Then what will happen?

You guys are really helping me get an understanding! Still a little confused though. So beforehand, unless I wanna keep like PNC Banking, Yahoo Fantasy Football, etc..then I don't need a backup beforehand? I erased everything on my SD already and it's in the phone. As for the rooting part, and the link cr5315 gave me (thanks you!) but I did not understand. I know how to extract files, to a point .. after downloading music and such. So that method made my head spin a little more, lol. Can't I just do the one click, then download Titanium backup, and that's it. No computer or USB needed? (Will I be able right off the bat to delete things like Amazon?) Then I can start my homework on flashing ROMS.
